Garden Phlox (Phlox Paniculata)

These blooms are a mainstay in the mid to late summer perennial gardens. They seem to take the worst of summer heat and dry spells without damage. And they add color when most needed. The nicest feature of this plant is the huge number of bees and butterflies it attracts! The generic page lists something for everyone. Phloxes (Phlox)

This banner was previously run on December 7, 2017. We have experienced a very hot, dry summer here (in 2020) which has severely affected all plants whether vegetable, shrub, tree or floral perennial. Yet I have enjoyed some very good blooms from the phlox (P. paniculata). They are excellent cut flowers and seem to "laugh" at summer heat & drought. Just one stem will perfume a room with a pleasing fragrance of delicate beauty and aroma. I cannot find the original photo from which the banner was made; however here are some reminders of past years what they look and smell like.

Gorgeous, Leon Hurray!
I agree that they laugh off heat and drought, and with the more mildew resistant cultivars available, they are wonderful for late August colour here!

I'm envious to hear how well your Phlox did this year. I'm in the same zone and my David phlox had horribly torrid heat reactions. Of course no rain for long periods doesn't help. This has been a stressful year for the garden in general. We reminisce through our photos of better days gone by.

Thank you Kim. I am hoping for better conditions in CA with all the wildfires. I know you and several others are affected in some way; especially some of our iris forum members. Please be safe! And know you are in our prayers and thoughts.
