Teresa, some of the hybrids haven't done well for me. I've lost 'Tomato Soup' several times so I won't plant it again. I've read elsewhere that it is finicky ... along with some of the others.
Have you tried the Tennesse Coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis)?. It is a native that has recently been removed from the Endangered Species List. It is sometimes slow to take off, but once it does, it does well in this area. The good old purple Cones (Echinacea purpurea) seem to do best for me. And 'Magnus' does too.
In gardens around here, the Cones sometimes succumb to too much rain. They are also subject to the aster yellows.
