LG, it's ok, they will be here soon, I don't want to create any confusion. They did refund me the double shipment charge a while back.

I showed my wife that a business that she really likes, Gurneys, had Kirinmaru peony roots for $14.98 which is a nice price. She liked the looks of it, so it's on the way.

I have seen a lot of comments about Kirinmaru being really, really slow with one seller suggesting that it might take 5 years to bloom. We'll see how that goes...
The return of perennials in the spring can feel like once again seeing an old friend

Just got the accumulated mail from the last week and my A & D order was in! Just 1 tree peony, Redon. Was really hoping they'd start coming in a bit later as I won't be back in AL to plant until mid October

Did it bloom yet? I am really torn between ordering nice roots and ordering cheap roots. Our soil seems to make it tough for really nice plants, yet half dead plants do well. I ordered 4 from Fina Garden and some from John Scheepers. I also have potted Itohs that I got locally. I got a Coral Sunset from Hirt's Gardens 3 years ago when I was really disgusted with our soil. It was tiny and shriveled, but it bloomed 2 gorgeous blooms this spring and I loved it! I wanted some from Adelman's but was too late to get what I wanted. They are close to my parents and I have had the best luck with bringing plants home from my mother's. I am really excited to see if the Fina Garden ones do well here. So frustrating to buy great plants then see them struggle and struggle and die, yet those tiny and almost dead bounce back and get giant.

Last year was the first time I ordered tree peony roots from them and they were gorgeous. I'll try to get Redon out of the box this morning before getting ready to go to work and take a pic for here. Their herbaceous roots have always been good. Have heard others say they've gotten incorrect varieties from them, had one last year that they'd mislabeled on their website that I ordered, by the time I got the box they'd figured out the correct name so they sent the root that I ordered but with a name I didn't expect. Was confused because I was missing one and had something else I hadn't ordered! Wrote to them and they explained, probably should've sent an explanation with the shipment. They seem to carry quite a few of the older, gorgeous varieties that others don't anymore, I wouldn't hesitate to order from them and always try to look at their selections as soon as they open each year to see what new treasures I can find! I order from them most years.

Here's Redon from A&D, a root division rather than a graft.

My first tree roots are going to arrive Friday, I can't contain my excitement, haha. I gave away couple roses, a big avocado tree to my brother to make room for the peonies.

SoCal, I like that you plan ahead.

I hope the smoke clears so you can get them planted.

Thanks LG, I have no space, I had to move some of my roses around too. The sky is a bit clearer, my husband said this weekend it will be clearer, the temperature will com down to the early 80s and late 70s.

My first box is here, OMG the roots were humongous. It's worth the money to buy it from Solaris. I'm going to plant them today after reading the instructions first.

Your will find the roots from the large grower/vendors to be far superior than any you will find in stores.

And they are cheaper than nursery! I wanted to replace a peony that came with the house, but tried to do it in May (After things opened back up from the Covid) and the only ones I found were around $40...I was told that was what good ones cost...since have found that there is quite a disconnect between nurseries and growers of peonies. I am so excited to compare both cheap Holland roots and Fina Garden roots.

They don't have tree peony roots around here, last year I ordered some from Hollingsworth, they were awful, but granted they were mostly herbaceous peonies. No tree, no Itoh. The itohs I got from Holland bulbs were tiny compare to these roots.

To my experience, Solaris, Adelman's, Swenson's and Homsteadfarms have the biggest roots. Of course I did not try all nurseries.
