Mr. Niels Hansen is the hybridizer of the lovely rose "Lillian Gibson" introduced in 1938. I first learned of him many years ago and of his development of plants suited for cold, frigid climates. I ordered the rose "Lillian Gibson" about 30+ years ago. They reward me each passing year with unfailing delicate beauty. I now have three plants in my landscape.
Niels Ebbesen Hansen (January 4, 1866 β October 5, 1950) was a Danish-American horticulturist, botanist, and agricultural explorer for the United States Department of Agriculture and the state of South Dakota. He searched the harsh environments of northern Scandinavia, Siberia, Manchuria, and the dry steppes of the Volga for plant stock that could flourish on the upper Great Plains. This banner "slipped up" on me, and caught me unaware.
@Marilyn it can grow in a good year to 6-8 feet in height, and about that size in width. It requires a lot of space. It only blooms once a year, but is well worth the time and space. A couple photos here to illustrate.
