Can we just take a minute to appreciate my little East facing Aroid window? ( don't mind the ficus Audrey on the left 😂) They definitely thrived this summer, I had some issues early on with some leaves that were growing a bit wonky. But that changed once I switched The watering schedule. The awesome thing is that all of these were grown from the tiniest of cuttings, or revived from a little nub 😬
I used 20-20-20 fertilizer for all of my aroids this summer, and I think it made a difference. Anyone else use a different type of fertilizer?

Your stuff is looking FABULOUS!

Well, yes, I do use a different fertilizer. I use DynaGro Foliage Pro. It has all the trace and minors which aroids do need

I might give that a shot moving forward, I currently use Jack's 20-20-20. And for the plants that's are just establishing their root system I use a fox farms root drench. Did you see the baby vittarifolium seedlings on the window sill? I have some there, and others a few feet away from a south facing window.

Very cool dude! I have maybe 10 vittarifolium spadices coming into berry. I used to use Miracle Gro, which is basically a 15-30-15, or, in Florida since a few years ago a 15-30-0 (they took out the phosphorus because we are basically a state that is built on Karst formation, Limestone, which is heavy on phosphorous already)..and I would supplement wit a separate treatment of trace and micros. But the Dyna Gro has all that in a really cost effective formulation. I only use 1 tsp/gallon a week. So a 32 oz container lasts a LONG time. And, I have REALLY seen a difference. I also supplement CA and MG with Dolomite powder asa top dressing once every 4 months (3x a year)

I will definitely give Dyna Gro a shot. I've never heard of dolomite powder, I will read into it.
Growing up in Colombia my grandma would do a top dressing of coffee grounds on her plants, and if I remember correctly she would once in a while throw a banana peel intoo the mix, her plants were always BEAUTIFUL! she's actually the reason why I got into plants haha. I've been doing the same with my coffee grounds, and my philodendron, and pilea really seem to like it. I just tried it on my fiddle leaf fig, maybe I will see good results soon. All of My ficus decided to stop growing once I gave them the all purpose fertilizer, will be switching that out ASAP, Hopefully these vittarifolium will grow to the point where I can pollinate them and make berries of my own, but I think that won't happen for a good amount of years

I know a guy who did a scientific study with coffee grounds and plants several (like 10) years ago. Coffee has so many compounds that they have not even analyzed it all yet. He was doing his study from the basis of insecticide control. He found that coffee as a top dressing did fight off pests like mealybug and scale. He was in So FL and was looking specifically at white palm and sago scale.Banana peels are a source of Potassium, the 3rd element usually supplemented with 20-20-20 (NPK) and like fertilizers. So its no surprise that plants like it.

I used to do the 15-30-15 0r 20-20-20 for years, giving a once every 4 months foliar spray of micros and trace in addition. Having a fert that has it all mixed in already at low concentration so it can be fed at every fertilization (either every watering or every week) is a real plus for me. I use it also in my terrariums, once a month. It can also be used in hydroponics. It means I do not have to buy 2 products.

@Gina1960

Yeah I'm my grandma always swore by the coffee grounds to fight off pest. I had a pilea that had massive massive leaves, and then it got attacked by scale, and that killed off almost every leaf.. I used a top dressing of coffee grounds to revive it, and ward off scale.. here is what it looked like before, and here ir is now.. it has grown a lot more, but no big pancake sized leaves since the scale
