I know, you are right and I do care but I'm quite stressed by all the things that are needing doing and that it seems only I can do. I won't be carrying boxes or anything, I will hire someone to do that but I have to make the decisions. I've committed to total rest once I get back from the coast, probably thursday. I intend to take to my couch with a bunch of unread novels and keep my leg up and resting.

Hmm, "Well, OK." Melissa said slowly, with an unhappy, concerned look.

OK Angel

I'm sitting here now with my leg up overlooking the Caribbean after a morning of going through 13 years of beach accumulations with my housekeeper. It's sad and also a relief to sell this place. We've had many good times here but we rarely come over anymore and it just didn't make sense to keep it. Sad for Manuela and I too as she has worked for me even longer than I've had this place. Her daughter and newest grandson came with her so I got to meet the littlest family member. Only 2 months old and beautiful! We're selling it furnished but still I can't believe how much stuff I had squirreled away in a house I don't even live in full time. Manuela made short work of going through it all and I only had to decide into which pile it should go. There are pictures and mementos that I thought I'd lost years ago but somehow ended up here in a closet. A lot went to her house in the village - I really don't need all these sheets and towels and cleaning supplies - and some will be packed in the truck tomorrow to go to the city with us. I was happy that my huge indoor Areca palm - it was getting close to the 17' ceiling - has been unpotted and planted at the village school. The pots and other plants I will take with me. Tomorrow we sign the papers and drive away.

And the view from the deck I just took for those of you up in the cold. Not sure why it looks upside down but it is right side up if you click it.

So what's your view from where you are now? Said you're looking at the Caribbean... I've read so much lately bad about Mexico, how the crime has taken over, and tourists shouldn't visit. I live where there are a lot of murders, but it's mostly young dopers killing each other.

A new flower!!! This is the one that wouldn't bloom! Thanks, Sylvain!

We got home at 5:30am! Put the truck in the garage and went to sleep. It was a slow ride back, our little Toyota pickup was so overloaded that we didn't go over 40mph! Everything is unloaded and in the hall now and I can take my time finding it all a place. Did I mention it rained almost all the way back? Or that most of the weight was due to my insisting on bringing 3 huge concrete pots?

Melissa, the press goes crazy with bad news. While the drug war has taken a lot of lives in the last few years, it is not everywhere. Even in the areas that are in the middle of it all there are tons of regular people living their lives with maybe a few modifications in where they go but most of the country reads these stories with the same horror that we read about the shootings in Conn. Tourists are not on their radar, they are fighting each other and the military for control of routes to the US border. Regular people get caught in the crossfire and it is horrible but they aren't the goal. They are criminals, very rich ones, and they don't care about anyone else. Here in the state of Yucatan where I live, the crime rate is lower than most of the US about the level of a state like Montana. This peninsula is off the direct route to the US which has helped. It is rumored that the big crime bosses keep their families here, I'm dubious about that, this is a rich city though.

My EX- beach place was directly across from the southern tip of the island Cozumel, about 100km south of Cancun. I think I could wave at you across Cuba but I'm not exactly sure where the USVI are, I've been to several Caribbean islands but not to either of the VI groups.

I live in a city of about a million, the oldest continuously occupied city on the continent. It is a center for art, music, food, architecture and medicine. My view from here is over colonial rooftops to many churches, the cathedral, colonial monuments and new monuments (I can see the angel Moroni on top of the mormon temple) and lots of trees.

I have one guest room so we'll have to schedule it but you are all welcome.

May is really hot, I have to warn you. Probably the hottest month of the year because the rains haven't started yet but the heat and humidity are building. Once the rains start in the evenings it is cooler and I like summer. I admit though that I love heat and there are others who think I'm nuts Rolling on the floor laughing

Yea! I figure life is too short to #1 live where mother nature is trying to kill you and #2 to live in the cold and the dark. I used to tell my friends from the east coast (snotty Calif girl that I was in my youth) that if you couldn't spend the night outside without dying then it was clear you were not intended to live there. They always replied with something about earthquakes but I ignored them Rolling on the floor laughing

LOL. I always say that I like my snow on Christmas cards and calendars. It does look pretty but then I realize how cold I would be if I were in it and that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the beauty. Pictures are better.
