Happy New Year, Bonne Nouvelle Annee etc. from your (used to be) bilingual Canadian here.

New little flower opening for me today, thankfully I discovered the buds ready to pop when I brought everyone indoors last weekend. This is a NOID as there seem to be two different types of plants on the mount. As you can see - two types of leaves and two different pseudobulbs. The tag says it is L. anceps barkeriana which is obviously not right. Very likely a 'bargain bag' bare root start I got at Tropiflora. There are often things mixed up in those boxes of divisions. A fun mystery if you can get them to grow, and truthfully, I've yet to have one fail on me, surprisingly. But I do get unexpected bonus flowers, it seems. Second flower taking it's time to pop . . .

There is a Laelia anceps 'barkeriana'! It is a smaller and more deeply colored variety compared to the typical anceps. It is very DARK.

Your unknown reminds me a little of Glorious May. Large broad lip with that central swath of color that goes out to the apex of the lip and then radiates outward to the entire lip. Narrow or slender segments with loads of spots.

Wow, thanks Bill. Yes, mine looks a bit like the ugly stepchild of Glorious May - same shape petals and lip, but insipid colors in comparison. Who knows, maybe it will put on lush new growth and produce something more vivid next spring.

It's pretty and it blooms repeatedly for me, so I'm not about to ditch it for being an ugly stepchild. It has personality.
