I wouldn't mind trying one or two of the 'Vibe Ignition' salvias if I can find them locally this spring.

'Windwalker royal red' is a fantastic salvia if you are willing to keep its vigorous growth in check (cutting it back when it gets too big and floppy). Its bloom power is second to none in my garden.

Miamiu said:I just ordered a Roman red.

I grew 'roman red' last year and really liked it. It did not get as much hummer action as some other salvias, but the red blooms really glow.

I had to get a new computer and was without the net for 6 - 7 weeks.

I still don't access to my email account [Bust Buy was supposed to transfer all of my info from the old to the new computer]. Still have the old hard drive, so I guess I'll be talking to BB sometime.

Until then, I can't order any plants online, yet.

Since my husband, Dean, sadly passed away on Dec. 7, 2020, I've a lot of other things that have to be taken care of, as well, along with my days of grieving.

Hope things are going well for you Marilyn.

I purchased a sallyfun snow white salvia. At walmart I spotted an April night so decided to try again and grow it this year. The one i bought last year did not survive the summer.

I just purchased a pot of grandstand salvia at lowes. I received the roman red plant and it seems like a salvia with flimsy stems.

nature keeps amazing me
ordered 'AMISTAD' AND 'WENDYS WISH' from White Flower Farm and was pleased with the results. WENDYS WISH is a ruby red and AMISTAD is a true royal purple. The bees and hummers loved it. not so much with Wendys Wish altho both plants were super healthy and loaded with blooms. Amistad came back for me last summer as we had a very mild winter. i transplanted them and they grew to 5ft. i don't think they'll come back this year as we had a brutal February. however the HOT LIPS did great and made it through without harm. i love salvias-they're so versatile. and agastache. somehow they manage to hang in during the winter and make a nice return. embers wish is beautiful. i just wish the local garden centers would carry more variety. hostas, rudbeckia and foxglove-oh please!

Somehow I got away from this thread! Zoe, what I was talking about was Mystic Spires. Unfortunately, it didn't survive our cold spell in February, which included a low of -9 one morning! I also lost my Amante and Sky scraper Orange. I now have gaps that I can fill with new salvias, however I'm going to get some that are rated for a zone colder than me because these should have survived, IMHO. I did spot one at Lowe's called New Dimension Rose, which I really liked the looks of, but I don't know it's parentage, so I will need to look it up before I buy it.

Just checked out the New Dimension Rose salvia in our data phase, it's a winner! I won $100.00 between two $2.00 scratch off lottery tickets yesterday, so I'm going to Lowe's early today to get the plant! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

You took my lotto luck. Sighing! Usually if it's in a ten or higher pot there maybe more than one plant in the pot.

Well, I bought two salvias, they weren't the new dimension, but they were salvia nemerosa. Ones a pale pink, the other a bright fuschia. And they're hardy to zone 5. They look good, I will plant them tomorrow. The label says a height of 18", but I don't believe that! My plants always grow taller then the label says they will.

I think my salvia grandstand has three plants in the pot. Just upped it to a three gallon pot.

I'm planting these in the ground. There seems to be more than one plant to each pot. That's fine by me! I also saw three different roses at TSC that I lusted for; Angel Face, Double Delight and Paul Neryon. Might have to see if I have an empty space to tuck one in somewhere....

Just purchased another saucy wine. My unplugged so blue is slowly getting root rot on different stems. First time happened two weeks ago and now another stem started today.

I saw four different colored salvia vistas in a pack for three bucks. I bought that and although I've been successful growing big blue from seed I purchased a decent sized one also.

I know some of you grow S. greggii "Radio Red." I planted one a few weeks ago and it has bloomed, but last week we had a couple of bright sunny days...and the petals appear to have bleached. Has anyone else experienced this? If our temperate April sunshine can do this, what can I expect under our blazing June/July blast? Or is this normal aging?

First bloom April 11

April 15 after two or three bright sunny days, temps in low 70s

Zoe, my opinion is that this is aging. Of course I could be wrong! The greggii are pretty tough salvias.Of all the new ones I planted last year, a greggii was the only one that survived our week of deep freeze and deep snow last February.

Interesting aging pattern. I had a red greggii Furman's Red for years, never turned white. Actually, I've never had any Salvia turn white. That was the first bloom on this one... I'll be interested to watch it.

Could that be mis named? Doesn't hot lips turn red to white?

I think Hot Lips starts out red and white. This isn't a Hot Lips form (wrong leaves). I'm still waiting for a second bloom to see what it will do Thinking
