It reminds me of Ti (Cordyline). My photos below show a plant I found sprouting in the yard about 4 months ago. It looked almost identical to your plant and was about the same size as yours when I decided to dig it and pot it up.

It does look like a Cordyline. Do they grow in Maine?

I had a similar incident. I found this little guy looking worse for wear last month in a pot of Gold Dust Dracaena. I think it is a Baby Doll Ti Plant.
We definitely need a shot of the stem to get a better idea of what free plant you have.
I have found that coffee, tea, and rose can all agree on one thing... water everyday.

Without a label, it's always difficult to determine for certain which cultivar we have but in time maybe it will reveal it's identity. I love mystery plants and Hawaiian Ti (Cordyline fruticosa 'Baby Doll') sure is a pretty one!
