Lorn, thanks for the bulblett advise to Calin. I also found wee ones in November and potted them and they winter in the garage. Your advise contained further information for me.

Thanks, Jo Ann. I forgot to remind readers that those little bulblets, when left exposed look mighty appitizing to birds and rodents also. Your lucky little bulblets are in 'good hands', nice and comfortable and safe in the garage!

Well, I'll check on them tomorrow (Sat.) when I hope to be back at the garden. I only have Saturdays in winter... by the time I'd get there it'd be already dark... so pointless.
I'm pretty sure they are some kind of Asiatics and this particular one is in a bit of shade and multiplies more and faster than other Asiatics in other areas. But also growing much taller. Last summer/fall the big bulbs were so close to the surface I had to cover them with more dirt, so I'm sure this fall I'll have to dig them up, separate and re-plant them deeper.

Your diet posts caught my eye, Rita. Isn't it true that even before you start losing the weight, eating properly lightens your mood and gives you more energy!!! Whenever I need to diet I focus on how good I'll feel even before I start losing weight.

I can't say changing my diet changed my mood. I would still love to have all that food that wasn't so good for me. What I am happy with is the weight loss. But not just diet weight loss but the kind that comes from exercise and means you shed mostly fat and gain muscle. nodding

I did miss all the sugary and starchy things that I love. I just didn't feel so tired and logey. At least there was a trade off for missing my goodies. My son in law is the strength trainer for the athletes at the University of Pennsylvania and he writes work out programs that are age appropriate so that I get some good information without overdoing it at my age.

There is much too much sugar in the average persons diet. Everything seems to have sugar in it. Read labels, sugar is in about everything.

I have cut out all the candy, cookies, cakes and donuts I used to eat. No sugary treats for me. But I know that I still get hidden sugar so I don't worry too much about that.

I have been keeping up my exercise program. Exercise every day. The weight loss is slow but I believe that slow with exercise is the way to go.

Hi Betsy! Commander in Chief is a nice red Asiatic lily; I think you will enjoy it! As for lilies that I have, I don't think I can begin to count them! I do have some of most of the types, Asiatics, Orientals, trumpets, and interspecifics like longiflorums-Asiatics (aka LAs) and Oriental-trumpets (aka OTs).

Do you have other lilies in your garden?

Do all of the lilies produce bulblets? When you lift them, are the little pieces that come off able to produce more lilies?

Teri, yes, you can plant the little bulblets found underground to produce lilies that are the same as the parent bulb. I find most Asiatic cultivars are good bulblet producers. It can vary though. Depending on the size of the bulblet you can get bloom in 1-3 years.

Checked the temperature in the seedling cage today--about 31-32'F. I thought it would be a little lower since we've had below normal temps lately.

A webcam shot of Lake Michigan at noon today, taken at a nearby marina clubhouse. Note the family of neighborhood resident geese--that somebody has spoiled silly with handouts. Thumb of 2013-02-07/Roosterlorn/4ae79a The lake is about 30 inches below average.

Local groundhog here on Long Island had seen his shadow so more weeks of winter preducted here. And it turns out he was correct as we are supposed to have a major winter blizzard here Friday going unto Saturday morning. So far they are saying 14 inches but that could change.

I am still on my exercise and healthy diet kick and work out every day.

Made my fiber protein slurry that I have each day a little different this time. Added the RAW FIBER, a scoop of Andrew Lessmans WHEY powder, half a scoop of SECURE MEAL (which I have been adding because it improves the flavor) and a half scoop of GOTEIN. Mix it all in the blender and I have had my super duper nutrious health food for the day.

I also take the Garden Of Life PERFECT FOOD RAW capsules (8 of those a day) whuch give me all the super benefits of green foods. They have so many in there. Especially when one first starts on them you can just feel the chlorophyll in them.

Between these two things I do gets me supercharged for healthy eating and loving. I do still eat lots of veggies but even if I didn't (or just couldn't get enough) I would already have my servings of veggies. Also much of the fiber and a good start on the protein needed for the day.

A good day for the exercising today. I did 30 minutes on my Gizelle, 100 crunches and 600 count on the stepper.

The ab crunches are something I have added recently and figgure couldn't hurt as far as getting the fat belly tucked in. Yes, I know only loosing weight will get me a flatter tummy but I am working on that also. No lying on the floor for me. I found it works just fine lying on my living room couch.

Also working harder on the Gizelle. So while I am still on it for say 20-30 I make it harder to do by reving up the motion.

On the stepper I changed the resistance to a #4 for the first time today. I had been working at #3 (it goes from 1-5). That increase from the 3 to 4 is something that really can be strongly felt so I have to work much harder to push those pedals down now than I did before.

So a very good exercise day today.

Connie, I did purchase a few liliums last year: orange tiger lily, white Easter lily, pink perfection, and a yellow NOID; but some have died on me. :crying:
I would love to get more eventually.

We had about 18 inches of snow here around my house on Long Island. Thank goodness the power stayed on.
