LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I know all about pigweed.. when I bought my house, that was the only thing other than thistles growing in the back yard!!

Probably w/Mom is instant gratification. She wants it now, not tomorrow, not next week, NOW. She didn't do any winter watering (and they got almost no snow this winter, much like myself), and now she's feeding!! Told her it was way too early, but she wants blooms before Easter. *sigh* Love her, though. And I'll just replace her roses when she kills them, too. And, much to my dismay, she's now going to order from the likes of Wayside Gardens & Michigan Bulb ("I ordered these plants from Michigan Bulb when we bought the house!" "right mom, that was back in '88.").

Oh well. Gotta love her. Smiling :) Smiling

It's so tempting to feed the plants right now. The daytime temps can be in the sixties and even seventies. Almost all of the roses that are not getting midday shade (they will get sun during four or five months of growing season) are setting leaves. I'm just about to embark on feeding them, though I will say that I am taking pains to keep them well hydrated.

Sounds like mini roses in pots might suit her well.

Or maybe she is more a daffodil person.
When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes.

I tried the mini roses thing. She killed those too. More like the plastic/silk roses type thing. LOL. oh well, I'll keep buying 'em for her and she'll keep killing 'em.

If Mermaid was a full yellow, I would. I don't care if it ate her house. Maybe then I could get her to move closer to civilization (she lives about 41 miles to the closest "city", Alamogordo, NM, and about 90 miles from the closest metropolitan, El Paso TX).

I grew Autumn Sunset. Just gave it away last week. Underperformed for what I needed it to do. I am replacing it with Peggy Martin. Pink will work.

My Autumn Sunset is a fabulous rose. Non stop bloomer. I have it on a porch rail with Westerland on the other end and the new Jacob's Robe in the middle.
I'm trying to get some clematis growing on them but can't quite get a color that fits well.
If I can figure out how to post a photo, I will.

Sue and I noticed on Friday that one of my Autumn Sunsets has reverted to Westerland.

Oh how crazy!
i have a pink double knockout with a sporting branch that is a lovely pink and dark pink pattern. It's not streaks, but more of a bi color. The color splits within the petals, if that makes sense. i'm halfway tempted to cut that branch and try to root it to see if it's stable. What do you think?

I definitely would try that, Cindi. It would be great to discover a new type of carefree rose. I had a Granada cane that produced striped blooms for two seasons, but my efforts to root the cuttings failed.

You could grow one of the yellow Austins as a climber. Mine get blackspot, but that may be less of a problem in a drier New Mexico.
