Sulli, your functions vases sound like such a wonderful idea, looking forward to seeing them once your work is available! Hope you share pics here or a YouTube video. You've made your garden into a beautiful space, a rose garden will be the perfect addition!

Jasmin, do you agree with your neighbor that a water feature would complement your garden? The sound of water in the garden is so relaxing, even if the source is mostly hidden. If you decide to add one it'll be so fun to see how you integrate it, whether it'll be a prominent feature or in a more supporting role!

Totally agree with my neighbour. I need some water in my garden. I've been thinking of it for many years. However, there were other priorities, for example, getting rid of the old deck and building the natural stone terrace, or getting rid of all old cement, etc.

The real issue is how make sure that I have moving water; not mosquito breading pool. I am reluctant to install underground wire because of so many animals that dig the garden. I also don't want to dig around the plants. I don't have a solution at the moment Shrug! In any case, it will be just one of those accents, not the most prominent feature. My garden is very small; that is, I cannot have a pond big enough to have fish, or to have some water plants. I will try to think of something this year. Perhaps just a big pot with a couple of water iris will do the trick Smiling

Thank you, Tracey Smiling I am hoping that those TPs that still have their flower buds tightly protected by the leaves will be ok. However, the Black Dragon, Necklace with Precious Pearls and Colourful Butterfly (all from the Central Planes group) have started differentiating their little flower buds from the little leaves. My concern that ice can get to those little flower buds and damage them. But, we can only wait and keep Crossing Fingers!

LG, it is still around zero, but the sun is shining and the sky is bright Smiling The snow is still there, but it will be gone by tomorrow Smiling The Central Planes TPs were growing and slowly opening their little leaves. I am positive they continued growing their little leaves during these several cold days. Now they are in that "small hands" phase. I guess they know what they are doing and it they think that they should continue growing, there should be no damages Crossing Fingers!

I was blowing snow onto the garden. I want to catch all the moisture I can, protect the tulips, and help the ground stay warm since it's going to be close to zero degrees tonight.

Many healthy seedlings, Oscar Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Congratulations I tip my hat to you.

This spring is going to be nerve-wracking for me Blinking Confused because many of my new tree peonies are expected to bloom or show signs of establishment.

1. The tree peonies I added last fall are beginning to emerge: Dancing Kagura Lion, two Guardians of the Monastery, and Vermilion Jade Palace.

2. Smaller tree peonies (three winters in my garden) should establish themselves this year and begin to produce their true flowers (not just blooms from the mother plant). Some of them have yet to bloom in my garden. Here are these newer plants that are still small: Lavender Hills, two NOIDs (Big White and Single White), Colourful Butterfly, Necklace with Precious Pearls, Sapphire Blue, Shimadijin, and one more purple NOID. I initially thought this last one was Shimadaijin, but comparing it with a plant that should be a real Shimadaijin, they don't appear to be the same.

3. On top of everything, I have five tiny seedlings and a two-inch tall tree peony division on its own root to care for. Additionally, I have the grafted Yatchiyo Tsubaki, which I received from Alex, and Leda, which has been struggling to survive since 2017 (the neighbour's dog ran over it).

So far, they all look healthy Crossing Fingers! but you can never know Crossing Fingers!

At least the Hellebores are thriving this spring. Last week's storm knocked them down, but they bounced back beautifully, as if nothing had happened

Thank you, LG Smiling This year is exceptionally good for Hellebores. They are real treasures for Northern Gardens because they start blooming early, and their leaves are (more or less) evergreen.

Oscar also has amazing Hellebores.

@ol434445 Oscar, has your black Hellebore started blooming?

I won't be doing much in my garden today. We've had lots of rain last night and today, which should encourage all the plants to emerge from the ground. Smiling

I received two Yachiyo Tsubaki grafts from Alex last fall. Unfortunately, one of them had a weak connection with the understock. Initially, I presumed it was dead when it failed to show any signs of growth this spring. However, a few minutes ago, I went to the garden and noticed a tiny leaf emerging Smiling It's too small to confirm whether it's the Yachiyo Tsubaki or the understock, but it resembles a tree peony because I couldn't see the "hood" Crossing Fingers!

As for the other Yachiyo Tsubaki, it overwintered in the porch. While it's definitely alive, it hasn't started leafing out yet Crossing Fingers!

Some of my herbaceous peonies have also begun to emerge and show their pips. The small pink NOID of Paeonia lactiflora appeared very early, alongside the tree peonies. Another NOID, which I refer to as the Beautiful Mystery White, has also started to show its pips, as have Edulis Superba and Blaze.

Although I always feel a bit high during every peony season Hilarious! this year it started unusually early Hilarious! Perhaps it's because I have so many tree peonies planted last fall, and I'm eager to see them emerge and grow, hoping they will produce at least one flower Crossing Fingers! Additionally, I felt really sad when I realized that the Guardian was sick last year Crying I also have many tree peonies planted relatively recently, so they should start blooming this year. They all have buds, but there's always a risk that they won't develop. I hope they will all be okay, including the little seedlings Crossing Fingers! Can't wait!
