Peak bloom on 'Moment to Savour' today - 1 bloom finished, 1 bloom packing up, 1 bloom just opening, 2 fully open and 1 bud to go.
Thumb of 2021-03-05/Australis/1e0e77

Poor thing is very confused and the bloom stalk is very short!

Nice bloom Joshua.

I can't wait until mine start blooming which should be about May 8th for the SDB Iris and May 25 or around then for the TB Iris to start. I'm so anxious. Lovey dubby

Thanks Evelyn! I'm happy to propose the addition of the first two photos to the database, but I'm reluctant to add the last one of the full bloom stalk because it's not representative of what it looks like normally (far too short and crowded).

'magnificent masterpiece' there's also another pregnant fan on another rhizome in the pot.

maybe i'll be seeing more flowers after the showers we've had. there's supposed to be at least 2' of snowfall in the mountains nearby? we'll see. we really do need more moisture, we are so far behind in the rainfall department!

Well Surprise Surprise!!! Yesterday I spotted 2 pregnant TB fans and 2 actual buds. It is very, very early for me to see blooms on Intermediates or TBs. I went and looked them up and 3 out of 4 of them are rebloomers. So what surprises me with regard to this is that last year in the entire season, I had only one rebloom. I am hoping this is a good sign. The 4th one I saw is is an Early Early.
Today I saw Tu Tu Turqoise SDB with a bud. And it is Tu Tu early Hilarious! It is going to be a bloom out for that stock. But I have others of the same plant so it's ok.
So anyway, maybe I won't have to wait a full 2 weeks after all to see some blooms!

Hurray! Elsa!

How can you tell if an iris is going to "bloom out" and what does that mean exactly? No increases so that rhizome dies after blooming?

correct definition. When the iris blooms, cut the stalk & it may put energy into making increases. I was given that advice when SDB 'Chanted' first appeared & it worked. I was afraid that I would lose it.

In this particular case, I have other plants of Tu Tu Turquoise so I am not concerned about losing it. But it is good info to know Lucy and Thank you, because 2 years ago I lost one I really was crazy about and it can't be replaced. I will remember this for future occurrences where my only plant appears to be blooming out.
