Well, maybe I should go ahead and put at least one out! Right now all my shepherds hooks are full; I have two niger seed socks, two suet cake feeders, and two different regular feeders hung out. I'm still getting a significant number of siskins and goldfinches on the niger socks every day. Maybe when they move on I will take down one of the socks and hang up one hummer feeder.

I agree
Me too! Going to put one out today just in case. It's been a wonky year so no telling what can happen. The coral honeysuckle looks to be a little late to bloom this year and think that's what they rely on for nectar when they arrive here. Hurray!

sunkissed said:I haven't seen my male now for a good two weeks, guess he's moved on. These were the last photos I got of him, would sit on that branch every night and watch the sunset. I usually have a couple females this time of year, but so far haven't seen them yet.

He's here at my house Sherri. Saw him this morning at my hot lips salvia. Big Grin My 1st of this year.

Geez, and my hot lips salvia is just coming out from the winter! I cut back all the dead stalks just the other day. I didn't lose the new salvias I planted, though. They weren't rated for my zone, so I had reservations that they would make it with all those low temps we had. Salvias are so tough!

There are not many blooms on mine Lynda. I'm feeling guilty that I had not yet had time to cut mine back. They are way overdue! Spindly, sparse blooms & foliage at the tips & bare stalks going downward till you get about 18" from the ground where they have much new growth but no actual blooms yet.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow, it's only a day away...........
Oh that's right ~~~ tomorrow I go to get my 1st vaccine shot.
Maybe later in the day or on Friday. Meanwhile I need to make some syrup & get a feeder out there.

Well, I'm kind of slow doing all of mine. There's so much of it to do, and so much of what needs to be cut back is little bitty fine branches, ugh. Takes patience to do it. I do clean up the oregano and the salvias. Still have to do the three potted mints, what a chore. I've already cleaned up the daylilies and the iris. Still working on getting all the leaves out of the perennial bed.

I peeked out the window just now and saw a male out there on the feeder! Not going outside yet for fear of scaring him off! Hurray! In Texas, there will be less flowering plants after the single-digits we had, so feeders will be more essential to the hummers. People are crowding into the nurseries, but even nursery plants may not flower for a while. The hummers need nectar when they arrive or pass through and lots of it! The plum tree didn't have very many blooms after the deep freezes, possibly because of freeze-damaged buds. The maple is blooming, but doubt that hummers use those. So all that is left is a few kinds of wildflowers blooming right now at my place, not enough yet.

Lind, I'm not familiar with your area. How far south are you? What city is close to you?

San Antonio is to the east of us, not too far. We're in the southern end of the hill country area in Texas, so temps are a little bit lower here than San Antonio temps.

Oh, that's beautiful country! I've always said that if I ever moved, it would be to Texas, and in that general region. I still have to have some hills, I'm an Arkansas hillbilly! Hilarious!

It's a hummer but it looks like it's tail is missing.

It's a cute hummingbird. Probably a different species than we're used to seeing. I think it's the angle that makes its tail look short but there are some hummingbirds that just looks short and stocky... Shrug! Hilarious!
