Born and growing up in Virginia nothing said Spring like the brilliant yellows of Forsythia, Crocus and Daffodils.
Here in Central Florida the Handroanthus Chrysanthus tree makes a great substitute.

The fallen flowers are a showstopper littering the lawn. From a distance they remind of Crocus in flower.

A close look at the 2" flower reveals the fine red lines in the flower throat.

I've always called these Tabebuia trees or just trumpet trees,, the yellow are so bright, they seem to be blooming better this year, maybe because we had a drier cooler winter. The orchid trees are coming out too, I really love those.

Those trees are awesome. We have a ratty old East Palatka Holly that has seen better days. Early pruning must have been done by a butcher I think a brilliant yellow Tabebuia (new names is terrible Thumbs down ) would do well in that spot.

I personally refer to it as a Yellow Tabebuia and it is easier to say. 😂
It is a standout in the landscape from a good distance.
Here is a Pic taken in early morning as sun was rising.

Another favorite is the White Orchid Tree.
This I use for a substitution of the White Flowering Dogwoods that graced VA in latter Spring.

Edit to add: The UF/IFAS lists the orchid tree as invasive for South Florida.
It is not considered invasive for Central Florida.

Lovely! I don't believe I have ever seen a white Bauhinia before. Do Loblolly Bays grow in all parts of Florida? I find they also make good subs for Dogwoods. They seem to proliferate in disturbed areas and we have a gazillion new neighborhoods going up in northern FL so there is a lot of disturbed area.

That's beautiful Scott, I've not seen a white orchid tree, however there are quite a few lavender or pinks here, and I do think those are considered invasive, they're just popping out now.

Another great Spring bloom is the Azaleas.

Sherri, there is one Bauhinia that is terribly invasive and it is a lavender/pinkish color. Others in the same color range are not invasive. Sadly, I do not know the difference.

Well I'm incorrect, I do see the white orchid tree now, in fact one grows in my DIL's parent's front yard. The thing about any of these trees, they look beautiful when blooming, but after that not so much.

Beautiful blooms Ginger, love the Wisteria, I tried to grow it here once, didn't do well, maybe too hot, maybe not enough sun. The oxalis looks really healthy.

Me too...I'm seeing more of it since hurricane Michael. It was given to me prior and I'm so happy it comes back in spite of our winter freezes here
