Had some lovely blooms today!
Now I can start pruning my roses!

seilMI said:I can't grow it here because it's too cold but you shouldn't have any problems with Lady Banks, Alice. It's pretty much bullet proof, lol. And yes, it can get HUGE if you let it. It's a species rose so nearly wild and very vigorous. Find a spot where you can just let it grow for a fabulous spring display each year!

Seil.......mine are going to be hard pruned shortly due to "Snowmageddon" in February. I was afraid they were dead - that beautiful arching growth showed no signs of life - but I am seeing a couple of branches with little leaves and there is growth at the bottom. But if your friend wants to keep hers small, she should prune it right after it blooms in the spring as they are once bloomers. This rose wants to arch - she could let it climb and arch over a fence. Its a beautiful thing and wish it bloomed more than once, but it is well worth the once a year show. I have never tried to contain it so dont know if it will grow alot & outgrow the space she has it in during the year even if pruned. She will just have to try and see.
