I've left an e-mail for GreginND over on the Wine Making Talk forum and told him we were here. Hope my ID is correct, and that he joins the conversation here from time to time.

Seil, do your hyacinths come back regularly? I had them for several years, then one year they just didn't come back. My tulips also tend to dwindle over the years.

Your blooms are just beautiful! My neighbor rooted me a Lady Banks rose. I've never had success with roses because of lack of sun. Anyway, I just stuck the little cutting in the ground in the back of one of my beds last summer. Look what I found today!

Thumb of 2021-04-01/MissAlice/b22d01

The blooms are tiny! If it continues to thrive it will need to be moved to another location. I'm not exaggerating when I say my neighbor's rose is the size of a VW bug!

Thanks for your kind words about my pictures. Tomorrow I'll post the Okefenokee Swamp photos.

How do you put pictures in plant files?

I love daylilies too! I probably have 100 different plants and at least 50 different cultivars. I'm not good at keeping up with the names though. Confused The reds are my favorite!

I can't grow it here because it's too cold but you shouldn't have any problems with Lady Banks, Alice. It's pretty much bullet proof, lol. And yes, it can get HUGE if you let it. It's a species rose so nearly wild and very vigorous. Find a spot where you can just let it grow for a fabulous spring display each year!

Roelie, if you were asking about my second pic... whether that is blooming now... yes, my winter honeysuckle is my earliest shrub bloomer. I don't remember for sure, but I think it might have actually been blooming off and on since December or January. That is definitely not normal (maybe February is more like normal), but our winter was pretty warm (relatively speaking) up until just the last few weeks of winter. The shrub has really kicked in over the last few days, though. ..... Your flowering trees are wonderful!! So pink and fluffy!

MissAlice, I love your pink Rhodie! It's looking good! Our zone changed from 5b to 6a a few years ago, but I know there's always the possibility that we will get the -10 to -20 degree nights like we used to, or even worse now that the weather gets even more wild sometimes. Because of that, I try to not buy plants that only go to zone 6, but sometimes they aren't labelled and I just gotta have it. Hilarious! My Black Tulip Magnolia isn't shy about telling me it's a zone 6er. Hilarious! ..... LOL @ Pinkey! It's like those silly little sayings, "Always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn… then always be a unicorn."

Oooh, Karma, that's a lot of mulch! Someone needs to invent a reverse Roomba to do these jobs.

Seil, your flowers are really screaming spring! How exciting!

Do you know if it can severely pruned to keep it from getting huge? I really don't have a good location for it if it gets all that big?

David, yes my hyacinths do come back. I don't know if they eventually die off or not. I've never kept track of them that closely but I know some of these have come back for at least 5 years now.

Unfortunately, Dj, Mother Nature played an April Fools trick on us. This is how it looked this morning.

Alice, since I can't grow it here I don't know how well it takes to hard pruning. Let me check on that with some of my rose forums and get back to you.

Beautiful, Roelie! Looks so springy!

Alice I have some answers for you.

This from GardenWeb alameda/zone 8/East Texas
Seil.......mine are going to be hard pruned shortly due to "Snowmageddon" in February. I was afraid they were dead - that beautiful arching growth showed no signs of life - but I am seeing a couple of branches with little leaves and there is growth at the bottom. But if your friend wants to keep hers small, she should prune it right after it blooms in the spring as they are once bloomers. This rose wants to arch - she could let it climb and arch over a fence. Its a beautiful thing and wish it bloomed more than once, but it is well worth the once a year show. I have never tried to contain it so dont know if it will grow alot & outgrow the space she has it in during the year even if pruned. She will just have to try and see.

Thanks for the info seil. Can't believe you got snow! Well I can believe it as below freezing temperatures are predicted tonight and tomorrow night. At our house, the temperature is usually a few degrees warmer than the airport so I'm hoping for the best. I did cover my hardy orchids but everything else is on its own.

David, I've had some hyacinths in the ground for 10+ years. I've read they don't come back but they always have. They have not multiplied but I'm guessing I haven't lost any either.

Rolie, Your pictures of your garden are lovely. It looks very springy!

The Okefenokee Swamp is located in south Georgia. It is huge. This year they have had lots of rain and the swamp is full of water. Some years, if there is a drought, there is terrible fire danger. Several years ago, the swamp was burning and you could smell the smoke at our house more than 200 miles away.

Miss Alice, were your flowers damaged by the cold nights you mentioned? We've had a cold snap here, too, but the season is early enough that nothing really tender was up to be hurt by it.

"hallo Thanks for the pictures again Alice it is so nice that you see so much, That color bird in the beginning that looked mirrord what is that?." It is a little green heron Roelie. He really isn't all that little and seemed to think he was invisible as long as he didn't move.

"More great photos, Alice! I love the lily pad pic!" Thanks seil. I loved the lily pads too! My favorite is the golden club--picture #5.

"Miss Alice, were your flowers damaged by the cold nights you mentioned?" Thanks for checking David. All is well--it only got to 36 here with no frost. 30 predicted again for tonight so we aren't out of the woods quite yet.

Wow, you guys have been chatty!! Great photos as always MissAlice!!

DJ, I got the front yard done so Sat will be working on the back. DH
has offered to shovel while I dump and spread. Here is a photo of
my memorial bed in the front. I went to the hardware store to pickup
some more black mulch, I got yelled at!! They couldn't believe I loaded
the cart with 4 bags and headed out to load the van. Here comes some
gal to help me load the last two. She said I should call ahead and they
would load for me!
