Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. The only sedum I've ever grown up until this fall was Autumn Joy. Since then I've bought 2 others. Here's my problem: my AJ is in a pot and is starting to grow and I have another, Sedona, in the ground and it's doing the same thing because of our mild winter so far. Should I cover them with pine straw so that they don't get nipped by our frequent freezes? Cold weather will return. Confused

I think it is normal for them to do that way Deebie. They will just sit there until winter is over. I have never covered mine, and never had a late freeze do them damage.
We would love to see photos of yours peeking through the soil. Hurray!
This is S. 'Chocolate Drop' peaking up in December. It went through snow, rain, freezing rain, frozen ground, thawing again and freezing again.

Finally, no more freezing. Here it is in May

Thank you Julia. It was one I found at a yard sale. An inexpensive terra cotta pot painted with some kind of flat yellow paint. It's held up for two years so far. Hope it makes it through this year.
The little Johnny Jump Up just appeared on it's own.

I love Neon, it is one of the shorter upright type sedum. The bloom color is lovely.
Great photos Tee. Do you keep a cover over it in winter?

No, I don't. I did the first year and it sent up new stems early which is what I expected might occur. Sort of like a mini-greenhouse (without heat).

Your snow looks similar to ours, heavy and wet. We may only get snow once in winter, and not much.

That chocolate drop looks sweet! I don't have that one yet.
I think I "rescued" a bit of chocolate ball before we moved last summer. I'm not sure what pot it's in. Hopefully it will appear again.

I have not had very good results with S. 'Chocolate Ball'. I have tried twice and it just seems to fizzle out on my. Sad
Not sure what I am doing wrong. Had the same experience with S. makinoi 'Ogon', but I am doing really well with S. makinoi 'Limelight'.
