Hello! If anyone could tell me why my aloe is so dark? I know it's some type of dwarf hybrid but I don't know what the exact variant is. When I got it it was red on the ends of the leaves, then faded to a green all over the plant, and now it is very darkly colored as I'll show here. I water it sparingly, the soil is always bone dry before another watering. It sits 16" under a relatively powerful grow light. While I think this coloring is gorgeous I'm a bit worried about how dark its gotten. Thank you for the help!

I think it's fine. The few aloes I have all pick up coloration under different growing conditions. I expect when it starts actively growing during the warmer months, it will be green again. Mine seem to react to a lot of conditions by changing appearance - shorter days vs longer days, direct sun vs some partial shade, damp weather vs dry weather. Most get their greenest when they are actively growing during the summer months and have lots of bright light and regular water, but any variation in that formula results in some tinting of the growth.

To me, it looks very dry. How are you watering?

I'm watering roughly every two or three weeks when the soil has completely dried out

I agree with Donald, that it is fine, but I also agree with Karen that it looks dry... Given the size of the plant, some of those lower leaves probably should not be drying up like they are.

Is it a grow light that produces a lot of heat? If it does, then you are probably watering a little too sparingly. When you water, do you give it a good let the water run through the pot drench?
It is what it is!
