I did a little more looking around, I stumbled across a website that lists a pp number for the Ruby supersemp. https://www.smgrowers.com/prod...

I haven't found any of the other ones, but it looks like at least the Ruby may be unique.

Great information Nathaniel. I see that SuperSemp® Ruby is a seedling from 'Zundflamme'.

So I actually found 'Onyx' at a Home Depot yesterday and bought one. I also took some pictures.




Since 'Ruby' is a Volkmar Schara hybrid, I think it's pretty safe to bet that the others are also his.

I just sent Breatrix a message asking her if this info is correct. If it is, I will add it to the database.

It appears that researching the email info you sent me came up with more questions. Nothing was solved for 'Onyx'.

Semp 'Ruby' is listed as a hybrid of David Ford, 1975:

I'm sure, even given the terribly unfortunate and increasing practice of rebranding existing cultivars under new trademark names, that it totally violates trademark rules to simply swap in a different true cultivar name with another one because the initial cultivar selection was a poor one. Where will this nonsense end? It seems that cultivar names are going the way of "fake news", why is this happening? It's an abhorrent development and an affront to Linnaean binomials and the Code of Nomenclature.

So as I said , semp 'Ruby; is David Ford, 1975.

Semp 'Ruben' is a Volkmar Schara hybrid made in 2012, the idiotic tradename SuperSemp (r) Ruby refers to semp (true name) 'Ruben' by Volkmar Schara'. This naming mightmare gets worse and worser because of this tradmark naming confusion. This obvious similar name confusion needs to be straightened out, two completely different cultivars.

@antman1- I'm not sure Supersemp 'Ruby' is the same as 'Ruben'. When that patent is reviewed, Ruby was discovered in 2014 which is 2 years after Ruben.

Incorrect. Supersemp RUBY is a made up recent trademark name of little meaning, Sempervivum 'Ruby' was a David Ford true cultivar hybrid named in 1975, to ignore this fact perfectly displays the nightmare and utter confusion that Trademark Rebranded naming brings to the front.

By the way, true cultivar names are written in single quotes, as in Sempervivum 'Ruben', per the international Code of Nomenclature. Trademark names never use single quotes, they are written without quote marks and in all CAPS, with a little "tm" mark to indicate it's a registered trademark name, almost anything goes with this horrible infraction of botanical latin, including duplicate names. 'Ruby' was named in named in 1975, the name RUBY (all caps) as a trademark name is bogus yet allowed because it's designated as a TRADEMARK name where anything goes, even if duplicate. People confuse the rules, and will say RUBY tm, is same as 'Ruby' a true cultivar name. The nightmare of trademark names get worse and worser.

Supersemps Onyx is a new breed. According to my information, they are all new plants.

Were you able to find any more info on those SUPERSEMPS? I haven't really, but I was able to find the Rose Quartz, Ruby, and Amethyst at a nursery up in Iowa during a visit in August. They're doing ok (I bought 2 of each just in case). Their tags were simply a barcode with their name (i.e. Sempervivum SUPERSEMP Ruby). They have a website where they offer them, plus one called Emerald, but only the Rose Quartz was in stock. They do not have much info about them either, basically a name and size.
They also had 2 of the Colorockz series, which also had barcode tags but theirs did not specify Colorockz.

I should specify the pictures were taken after purchase, not as of today.
