My noid hosta looks pretty similar to first frost in leaf shape and variegation. Does first frost have red/violet-dotted (very small dots) on the bottom of the petiole/stem things??

I think I'll wait to see if the noid changes to give more updates. I dont think it would be accurate to identify it just from one season.

Rose, where do you shop? I love the first gold one! I like the light ones in the garden. Which ones increase the best for you? It is such a fun time of the year when the hosta are popping up and look so fresh.

I have 2 nurseries in my area that gave a very nice selection of hosta. I've also purchased many online from Naylor Creek, NGP and several others. I'm also in a co-op on Facebook that buys from wholesalers.

Yes, it looks similar.

I said the wrong thing earlier -- It is more a violet/purple than red. My hosta has matured leaves (well, i think, because they stopped getting longer/larger) with petioles almost the length of the leaf itself.

Mine are over 90% accounted for. I realized that some of the seedlings on my list, were peddled last autumn - cheap. I found a couple more by looking back at uncropped pictures from the end of the season last year. Both had been moved late in the season and I knew roughly where they were, but not exactly. Still others are too far into the garden to see. I'm beginning to walk carefully in the garden as I can see the emerging plants in many cases, but not all. So some will have to get bigger for me to tick them off the list. Others are always late arrivals and I haven't even bothered to look for them yet. I have a few that are starting to unfurl; so might make my first round of the garden with a camera in hand tomorrow.

UPDATE
The NOID hosta has turned WHITE!!

The leaves are darker, and grayer (could just be the weather, it was cloudy), and the yellow edges are now white.

Isn't Home Depot (or any box store) a really good place to get HVX?

I have seen it at both box stores and a few garden centers , I guess it depends who supplies them.

I just got Autumn Frost from NH Hosta and Lowes. They both had the same tag and were about the same size. So, they most likely came from the same place.

I'm not sure they sell Hostas here at our local Home Depot.

(But I would like to add, I rather buy from nurseries and garden centers than big box stores).
SoCal, do you see hostas in gardens where you live?

Goodness, SoCal, your small garden must be amazing. Every time I change to a new forum, you're on it! I too have a small garden but maybe I can squeeze in more hostas.
