The seeds have been sent!!
For those of you, like myself, who have been pondering the question of what's actually involved in the process of shipping seeds to Canada, here's the story.
Sending seeds is easy!
First thing this morning, an hour and a half before they even opened, I called my local postal branch. I was assured that the process would be simple, but that it would be best to bring along a list of what I was sending. So, I gathered things together and headed out. As I entered and walked to the window, I teasingly called out that I was their problem-child of the day. Postmistress Sylvia just grinned and said, "okay, let's see what you've got". As I explained what I was doing, she reached for a form and inwardly I sighed in resignation. I'm just not much of form-filling-out type of gal.
But wonder of wonders, the form was extremely brief and very simple.
When I explained that I wanted to pass along the information to Y'all, she helpfully handed me an extra copy.
The nuts and bolts of it was that the customs form asks for sender particulars, recipients information and a very basic description of what's included. In this instance, I wrote in "flower seeds".
In the three minutes it took me to do this, Sylvia ran the list of plant names though her computer to check for any restricted varieties. An all clear on that, a slap on of the rate sticker and we were done!
If we hadn't chatted about ATP for a couple of minutes afterward, I'd have been in and out of the door in less than 10 minutes. Next time I go, it'll take about three minutes, tops. I'll have the completed form in hand.
If ya do decide to pop in for a visit Sylvia, thanks again!
