Here's a photo of one of the first roses I ever planted in New York - a grandiflora named Ole. Here it is in the dappled light beneath an arbor vita tree.

Pink Intuition is a nice complement to Red Intuition, but I don't think it's quite as unique.

Reba McIntyre is a bright, vibrant scarlet rose. It has a nearly neon hue.

Rosa Scabrosa reminds me so much of a camellia that it's the reason I chose to plant it. That was before the "April" series of camellias were introduced to the market, which are the only hybrids hardy enough for zone 6 (of which I have two).

Rose de Rescht is a compact bush whose dense foliage would obscure the blooms if they weren't such a vibrant pink.

Singin' in the Rain has long-lasting blooms -- in this case, they lasted all the way until a Thanksgiving Day snow, so I re-named it "Singing in the Snow".

I had Tuscan Sun as a standard, but it didn't over-winter well. I hope to replace it with the bush.

Actually I'm 6b - lucky in that regard, since most of the rest of the valley is colder. But I'm in Westchester County (albeit the northern-most corner), so it's a little warmer down here!

Mine, too Dana. I have high hopes for this season. Last weekend (8 days ago) it was in the low 70's (very warm for NY). Then it dropped down into the 20's during the week. Now it's supposed to be sunny and 79 degrees on Easter! CRAZY! I'm sure we'll break some records this weekend! We've had huge amounts of rain, but that's fine with me. A good wet spring will bring better blooms.

Thanks for a fabulous show, Mike; great photos of great roses. I'm impressed with your Buck Roses and with Bouquet Parfait. It amazes me that any rose can really make clusters of flowers that look like that.

Some of those I grew successfully when I lived in NJ. I was very fond of ZD and Midas Touch. Every year Golden Celebration wowed me with its flowers, then with its susceptibility to black spot. I positively tortured Buff Beauty, but it did well in two spots. It seemed to like heavy soil. Oranges and Lemons just sat there for two years, and Gemini melted away to nothing in a year.
When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes.
