Don't be embarrassed m I use to have most of them myself until used a bad cypress mulch. just killed everything. 200 Hostas and 5 Japanese maples. My oldest I had for years just die this season and two other Trees I planted. are dying. Confused

Susan, the extension office said was the mulch. He said sometime they treat cypress mulch with something to control weeds. He told me this on the phone. I had the Dallas morning news coming out to visit/interview my Hosta garden. I paid a couple of guys to help me spread the stuff, they down on their knees. smoothing it out everywhere.
I notice soon as they it looked too clean., they actually started disappearing. even my Clematis died..
I guess I was so excited I didn't pay much attention or I just did not read the label
I was so embarrassed when the gardening editor came out the next day. I know she thought I lied.
I haven't had the money to send soil sample to the ext office, but I need to do that. I tried planting some in the ground last year, not a one came up.

It took me to your photo bucket and I saw the hostas. Nice, I was thinking about getting a photo bucket do you like it? I need something easy to load. LOL.
I am so sorry to hear about all your hostas. What ever company made that mulch or added chemicals to the mulch should pay for all the damage. If a landscaper used it there could be thousands of dollars in damages.
Even if you do read the label, mulch should not kill plants! Mulch is mulch, who reads the label?

I have to admit that i have never read a mulch label beyond the type of tree-usually I use cypress but this year DH went to get it and came back with 10 bags of cedar. The cedar looks nice, but I think we'll need more like 150 bags to get all the beds Smiling
