Can a mosaic be made on a sheet go glass using silicone to glow the glass pieces down? Will the grout stick to glass?

Gina - I don't know the answer to that but there are those here that do and hopefully they will be along soon. If I were guessing and that is all that I'm doing, I think it would work.

I make mosaics on glass all the time, but I've never used the silicone to glue them down. I do grout my mosaics on glass and it works just fine. For glues, I've used Polyseamseal clear caulk by Loctite, Mac Glue, Weldbond if it will be an indoor piece.

Thanks! The reason I am asking is, I have had a mosaic planned for a long time to place outside in front of my 500 gal propane tank as a partial screen. I had never started it, and then, my shower door fell off. The door is still good, but can;t be rehung. I wanted to find a use for it that didn;t include chucking it into the landfill. Will those glues work for an outdoor piece? which would be best?

Gina, we removed shower doors and just went with a curtain. I've been planning to mosaic them to help shield a big electric box in our yard. I think GE Silicone2 would be best because it can flex with weather changes.

I'm sure you can grout if you want. I hate grouting, so I've started just butting all the glass or tiles as close as I can get them. It looks fine, is quicker, and isn't as distracting as grout lines. I have a tile saw, a glass saw, and a glass grinder. The grinder is used the most to help shape pieces. You can often find them in the thrift shop. Just be sure to wear a mask when grinding. You don't want that silicon dust in your lungs!

I need to get going on that project. I'll post pics when I get done. Please post your pics too, Gina! I'm going to attempt a greenhouse look with lots of plants and flowers.

Do you think we should leave the metal frame on it? I can't really see how to remove it anyway, but it would eventually rust, wouldn;t it?

I plan to leave the frame on. I don't think it's rusting metal. I'm going to have my husband attach some sort of post to stick it in the ground so it'll stay upright. He can bolt or weld something on to it. You've gotten me inspired again.

This sounds like it will be a beautiful piece for your garden - and functional too. I'd love to see it when done.

Good for you, Gina! I've been procrastinating, but this is a good time to get started. Yell if you'd like a box of tiles or glass. I have enough to have a store front!

I know that none of you know this but I am a bead artist. I do bead embroidery. I have a huge supply of different elements I use in my work....so I went through a lot of it tonight and found a lot of cool things I think will work in a mosaic!
