Here are a few of the Semps I started in January. It's nice to see them start to come into their different traits. The image in the plug tray has offsets already. It's seed from Jovibarba Astrid.
Very nice Mark!! And great photos, I can see all the detail on the plants! (as I've said before, I may have to try seeds this year! )
I love seedlings!
Kate, Arif, Pia how are yours doing?? Anyone else growing these from seed?
Mine are good thanks Greg. I put them outside for what was meant to be one afternoon about a week ago, and then forgot to bring them in again. When I realised I was afraid I might find them looking less than happy, especially as we've had a bit of a cooler snap again. But actually they seem to be enjoying themselves, so I've left them out.
Good to have you back Lynn! and because I missed you I looked up that Who's Who Spotlight article on you on cubits. Boy, life was hair-raising exciting for you back then!!... and I won't be able to get that 'Lynn-with-very-long-hair-sitting-on water's-edge-cutting-up-fish-for-the-water-moccasins' image out of my mind. Yes, in my imagination, you had to have had long hair...
What to baby heuffi's look like? When I was moving my seedlings yesterday I noticed one looked a little strange. On closer inspection I could see not 1 but 5 growing points. 2 looked like they had been there since the seedling first sprang up, but the other 3 are close to the base and look much smaller. I know 'twins' aren't uncommon, and I even have a triplet, but 5 made me wonder if it might be a jovi heuffi rather than a semp. I'll try and take a pic but the whole plant is so small I don't know how well it would come out.
Looks like a semp quintuplets birth.
Time will tell us if they are sharing the same heart/lungs and other parts.
Surgery may be required as they become larger and stronger.
Have you started thinking of names?
