Oooh, OK. That sounds like a very handy use of the facilities here. I keep notes on my plant list, and on pics when I upload them, and your pic comments take it a step farther. Slick!

Everyday Hilarious! I go 6-7 times and watch my plants. I don't have much but since it is in balcony I can afford to visit often. I keep a watch regarding their South drying out, leaves turning yellow, water in the trays , watching seed pod etc. And these days- making my adeniums wear raincoat Rolling on the floor laughing as it's raining almost daily at night. Grin

Till now I don't see any split.. How does a tiny split look? Will it be an tiny opening ?

@Kaktus or @deepsouth, can I use paver sands for germinating seeds? That is all I have. Although our garden dirt is sandy, I never used them for my potted plants.

yes ...paver sand will work just fine ....but shy away from "really fine" sand ...because fine sand has a "clogging effect" on water, whereas bigger sand is "flow through" ... allowing faster drainage

I sow my Adenium and Pachypodium seeds on the same mix that I grow the plant in. I used to plant multiple seeds in one pot and then transplant them as they got large. Now I use those small seedling six pack liners that commercial growers use. This way I can leave them in the container until they are of sufficient size to pot up. Since they don't all grow at the same rate it's easy to tip out one plant at a time without damaging roots or forcing the plant to readjust to a different mix.

That is a great idea, last time I also have some sand box to keep all the offsets and cuttings of the succulents and cacti, but having problem when I want to repot, you take 1 but damage another 8, now I use seedling trays, it helps alot. They have ranges from 32 to 200 holes for the same size of tray, so we can replace the top tray but still using the same bottom one. This is my 72 holes tray.

I was looking at these trays at Lowe's and I wasn't sure if they work. Now I know. I will try this seedling tray.

Adeniums
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums and am addicted to adenium (borderline obsession). It all started off with ordering seeds in bulk to try and grow rare dark varietiesโ€ฆ until I realized that there's a very low chance it will look like the parent plant. Nevertheless, I still enjoy watching the germination process and the first seedlings pop.

I noticed on some of the seedlings, there is a purple/red tone in the veins of the seedlings and a dark purple tone at the bottom of the leaves. Is this normal? At first I was excited that those ones may be a good indicator of flower colour, but perhaps they will grow out of it. It was just strange seeing that out of 62 seedlings, only 5 of them had the red veins and purple leaf tone. Does anyone know what this could mean? Thanks!!

Hi @Monchii, Welcome! to the forum, your seedlings looks healthy, hope you can get a lot of different varieties and colors.
re. the purple tone on the leaves, it looks like they are not the indicator for flower color, but you may put a tag to identify those, incase yours are mixed seeds, then some of them may be from a different species / color.
Sometimes different exposure to sunlight or minerals content in the soil may contribute to that..
If you have too much seedlings to manage, then you are welcome to join our adenium challenge. => The thread "Adenium Challenge" in Adeniums forum

P.S : I've send you 5 acorns so that you can buy an adenium badge to put in your profile, welcome..

Welcome! @Monchii that is a lot of seedlings! It must be fun to see a lot of baby seedlings growing! Keep us posted on your progress!

I agree with @Kaktus, since you have plenty of adenium seedlings you definitely have enough seedlings to join the adenium challenge here:

Hello! Thank you for the acorns!! I just added an adenium badge to my profile (it's super cute)! I'll probably be active in the rose and azalea forums too! I have my eye on some satsuki azaleas and planted regular seeds. As for the adeniums, I actually purchased individual colours and varieties and made sure to label them. I heard the chances of them actually looking like the picture or parent plant is extremely low, but it's okay.. I guess that's the fun in it! I just planted 72 more seedlings yesterday before I signed up hahaha!

I will definitely check out the challenge! I have never thought about combining them into one big plant before! Might be hard for me to move around for winterization if it gets too big thoughโ€ฆ I live in Canada so will need to move plants in and out throughout the seasons ๐Ÿฅบ.

I think the scariest part will be to try to train the roots. For some, I will cut the tap root for a radial growth and for the others, perhaps I'll just leave alone when I repot. I will definitely keep everyone posted on the progress ๐Ÿค—.

@ Monchii. Welcome to the site. Reddish or rosy colored leaf veins in Adenium are normal and an indication of parentage. Both A. arabicum and socotranum often have reddish veins and occasionally the trait shows up in hybrids.

@Kaktus, must be nice to walk around the neighborhood and find all these seedpods that no one wants :).
