Yes, quite a lot of neglected Adeniums, the trend for Adeniums have gone, the demand for Adeniums are high maybe around 10 to 15 years ago, for the caudex, then up again around 5 - 7 years ago for double petalled, now not many people want to buy or keep them, only some true hobbyist will buy, but the market become very small.

In Indonesia, some plants or tropical fish are somehow seasonal, some big guy / nurseries will create the demand.
10 years ago the price of anthurium also skyrocketed, it was like a stock market, there were some big nurseries play with the market and price, at that time every directors in the office would like to have one, a lot of businessman will buy and give them as a present to their business partners. At that time some species is priced by the number of leaves on the plant. Some people also considered those as investment, you buy a 3 leaves plant, grow it into 5 leaves then you sell it at a higher price. Now you can find a lot of discarded anthuriums in the parks.
3 years ago everybody wants a Monstera and aglaonema, specifically Monstera adansonii, everybody wanted to have one, it seems like now no more interest and the price also went down.

Oh wow! Amazing how "marketing" can create so much demand. Maybe we are behind here when it comes to adeniums. However, here you will need a license to sell commercially.

Most people I know buy plants more like a disposable "flower bouquet". When the blooms are done they toss them or give them away. So there is a constant demand, of plants here and only hobbyist like me will grow them. I like to grow my plants and enjoy them longer. A $30 to $50 flower bouquet here delivered to the office would only be enjoyed for a week or so.

For many years, I was one of those who enjoy those expensive flower bouquets that lasts for a week or so. Then in 2005 I discovered I can grow roses and orchids, so I told my hubby don't buy me cut flowers anymore just blooming plants. And the rest is history. Whistling

That's awsome. Will keep a check. Mine is still not brown .
Just a vague thought. What happens if we remove seedpods which are not ripe or brown Confused

@Aashna I can understand how long of a wait it seems. It was agonizing waiting for my seedpods to ripen from just a tiny dot and waiting 70+ days. Hope yours will be ripe soon :cross_finger:

I had one seedpod that I accidentally broke while repotting. The seedpod turned black and the seeds were not viable.

Here it is, my neighbor's seeds. I soaked the seeds overnight with water and hydrogen peroxide. Used hydrogen peroxide and water to moist the media.

8/21 - Sowed seeds on Jiffy Pellets using McDonalds hotcake container as mini-greenhouse.
8/22 - Sowed seeds on paver sands/perlite mixture (no cover)

8/24 - late afternoon, noticed some cracks on the paver sands/perlite media and 2 seedlings starting to emerge
Thumb of 2021-08-25/GigiPlumeria/f543cf
(Nothing on the jiffy pellets yet).

Update: 8/27 - very promising 75% germination on sand and perlite mix but the seed husk seem to stay longer? The Jiffy, less than 50% germination rate.

Aashna, why should you remove the seedpods if they are not ripe? I will be more than happy if they don't ripe fast, it means they are either growing a bigger seeds or produce more seeds..

Btw, I've seen more and more sprouts coming out, including the white variegated ones..

@Kaktus Hurray! great job.

In a world full of stress, growing adenium seeds for me right now provides much needed diversion and brings positive vibes. I planted 40 seeds and I will be happy if I get 50% germination rate.

@kaktus

This seedpod was on the plant when I got it from nursery, have repotted it with the pod so little worried as I don't know if all is well with the pod . Though the plant has produced new leaves after repotting, but the shape of the leaf is different as compared to my previous adenium.
Attaching pic

Hope it's growing well . Pod is almost 18 cm

@Aashna. Differently shaped healthy leaves just indicate different species/clones in the background. The seed pods look great. Also look almost mature. Don't take them off until they change color and/or start to split. If they are outside you need to wrap them loosely so that the seeds don't blow away. Different species and hybrids have differently shaped pods and even 'hang' differently. I have had pods that are horizontally straight across, some that stayed upright like a 'V', some like an inverted 'V', fat ones, skinny ones, long an short ones. No worries except not letting the seeds blow away.
Be kind, we all struggle sometimes.

Good to know that seedpod is doing fine . Was worried as didn't see its development from the beginning . Smiling I used to think all obesum leaves are same and since this adenium with seedpod was underpotted and neglected in the nursery so the leaves are deformed .

Hey all,
Saw split on the pod today but it is on the half pod , the other one is still intact. Have covered with mesh bag as @deepsouth suggested.
Strange, 2 days back I posted pic of the pod and there was no visible sign of the split.

Can anyone tell me what is the normal size
Of the seed ?

These might be arabicum seeds. Mine were smaller but same plumpness. Size of seeds probably varies depending on the variety. What is important is the seeds are plump.

Thanks @gigiplumeria , I have seen that post . That's amazing , crisp information on pods . I am not able to figure out the size of the seed. There was a pod on my mom's adenium , I asked her to cover it , she got 11 seeds . She said seeds are very small may be the size of mustard seed Grin She has potted them in fine sand but she said don't know whether they will germinate. This is the first time she sowed adenium seeds Smiling

So i had to take them home and repot them Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
And here is the finished product, I could not find shallow pots so I am using my orchid pot until I get the real terracotta pots.

Yaaay. I had a lot of seeds planted on my MD Addie (red on white bloom similar to yours) but only 7 seedlings are going to make it. And they are very tiny seedlings so not even sure if they will make it.

Looking at the size of your seedpods. I think you will have more than 11 seeds. Hurray! you should be able to harvest it soon, if it already split open.

I don't know Gigi , kindly help me with this . The split is not open yet . It looks like a crack and the pod is shrinking. Is it normal ? Yesterday I have covered it with mesh bag . But today morning I saw seedpod( being tiny ) coming out of the holes of the mesh. It would have definitely flown away . So tied it with a jute rope . Let me know pl when to open. Attaching a pic .
