I'm wanting to add nocturnals to my current plants. So I trot over to the trusty ATP Plant Database to select by characteristic, and apparently nocturnal isn't a characteristic, or I'm just not seeing it. It would be really cool if it was, though.

I can't just type "nocturnal" in the search box, because that finds plants with nocturnal in the name (and there's a diurnal daylily with nocturnal in the name - how confusing). Searching by characteristics doesn't let me me type "nocturnal" for my search criteria.

I have seen "nocturnal" listed as a "plant trait" for some of the daylilies I've looked at, but I'm just not finding a way to use it as search criteria.

What am I doing wrong, oh wise and powerful Dave?

Thanks, but I'm talking about in general. It was seeing it on daylilies that made me think it was a searchable trait. (I find it hard to believe, but others assure me that daylilies are not the only plant on the planet. )

Makes sense Mary. I know I've seen posts of night blooming plants here and there.

I typed "Night Blooming" (minus the quote marks) into the search and it brought up a lot of plants.

* Edited to add: I just went back though and see that most listings under that heading are for night blooming water lilies.

I have added Nocturnal as an option under "Flowers".

And unless people add this to an entry, you may not find much so please check it if you find reference somewhere to it being nocturnal. This database is only as good as it's members can make it!

I went to the database and checked *Nocturnal* for Epiphyllum oxypetalum, Ipomoea alba and Cereus repandus, three plants that I know to be nocturnal bloomers.
