I used to have 89 hybrid roses, but with seeing only one bloom in three years because the deer loved them so much, I let a friend come in and dig and carry them away, and now I have a row of mini roses for some reason the deer do not bother.

Today I went and picked up two Japanese Snowbell Tree (Styrax japonicus) seedlings about 2 years old and 1/4" around 3' tall, so I potted them and will let them grow before I plant out in the gardens.

This spring going to plant about 15 trees along our driveway as the land owner next door had asked if he could remove some of the scrub oaks and trash trees, we were OK with it, but he removed all the trees! Told him I was planting Oregon Redbud and Quaking Aspens as many as I had and he was OK with it,

We could have stopped him from doing anything as he had never done anything with it even tho it was his property but we had right of domain because from 91 to 2012 he never claimed it. But did not want any hassle, but with no trees it is bare looking and I want to get these trees planted

Dee! ahhhh yes borders.I had been gardening along the border between me and neighbor to the east. When I wanted to instal some contractors edging and talked to neighbor he looked a bit off and tactfully mentioned the lot line.I checked and there are places where I am over the line by as much as a yard.

He doesnt mind because its garden .I made a mental note to end increasing that side.

Mine were under snow, then all the snow melted, then more snow came and they were hidden again, then we had rain and melted all the snow and today, we have lake effect snow, temps going to single digits tonight and the winds are howling. Tomorrow they say sunshine, temps going into the upper 30's but snow is coming back again on Tuesday.
I'll see if I can get a pic tomorrow before they get covered again. I am so over winter. Come on spring.

Paul Thanks The conifer is a pinus mugo Aurea, I have always wanted a Chief Joseph but never found one here locally, I saw some really nice ones in Salem but could not convince them to ship to me. I am hoping one day I will get lucky and find it somewhere. I do have one called a Taylors gold tip the new growth turns yellow in spring at the same time the Iris are blooming it is another one I look forward to every year.

Jo Ann beautiful garden Thumbs up

Dee I have never had problems with the deer around my house where the roses are, but I do have to cover all the trees when they start to rut, they will ruin anything not covered. Red Buds are my favorite spring trees nothing else quite like there color when they are in bloom, a few years ago I lucked upon 2 that were a newer variety at least for here they were called Hearts Of Gold, the bloom is the same as Original Redbud but the leafs come out bright gold, eventually they turn green but any new growth will stay gold all summer. You might consider adding one to the mix they make for a nice show.

Here is one right after it leafed out and another picture of it in August

Well two years ago a guy came and had about 10-15 different tree varieties and all but the weeping ones were 5 for 25.00 and they were then about 5' each. So got 5 different varieties and planted some, potted others and sold some, well still have some so thought I would plant them this spring except for the weepers.

Then I have about 15 tree varieties that are about 3' some will sell this spring for 3 gallon 20.00 5 gallon 25.00

Most of my yard-garden is still covered with snow but a bed on the south end of the house is snow free. 45 degrees today so I went out and got down on the lawn and cleaned a few plants. It seemed wonderful to be in the garden. I also cleaned up a few piles of raisinettes that the deer have left on the lawn and spread them around the bed. Two which I planted last year had tried to put up a bloom stalk that had frozen.

I love redbuds, tried to grow one years ago, it never survived winter. I am apparently at the edge of their zone, although the city just east of me is known as "The Redbud City".

Went outside Sunday when it was at least decent out to take a photo of my iris garden, nothing much to see except snow - with more covering it right now. I didn't think we were supposed to get this much today, I left for work, it took me 10 minutes to go 4 miles ( my commute is 60 miles) so I turned around and came home. The winds are gusting up to 40 miles an hour, and wind chills are at zero and below, so even if I had made it into work, the drive home would have been just as bad.

Had a beloved friend die yesterday ( he was 90,and it's ok) so I think I will do some online flower shopping today to ease the pain in my heart. Iris, daylilies.... I wonder how much damage I can do - and where the heck I will plant them!

Sorry about your friend, Jan. I lost a good friend last week to a terrible disease, and she was too young to die. That makes it so much harder.............

Thank you Arlyn -- no it isn't.

I got a couple of photographs in Iris Lane today. The first photo is *Nordica* -- which I needed to thin last year, but never got to it.

Thumb of 2013-02-20/Muddymitts/460d56

Second photo is *Savannah Sunset* -- which I did thin, and replanted. Half the rhizomes have pushed out of the ground............ Sad

The rest of Iris Lane looks like one or the other!! Hilarious!
