I'm so saddd Sad the first bloom of my "Muang Muang Rat" plumeria fell off! The heavy rains and strong wind are the culprits. Thankfully there are more blooms on the way.

The first bloom is "huge" 4+ inches , gorgeous color, and in my opinion "strong" sweet gardenia scent. This is my last year's purchase from BBB. Love it!

If you look closely, it is bigger than Dannon Greek Yogurt cup, and the petals are not even fully spread out. Lovey dubby

The word 'Muang' in Thai means purple I think, so I gather Muang Muag Rat means Purple Purple NOT Hilarious!
But it's a gorgeous bloom and with a strong fragrance, that is tops in my book! Thumbs up

Rolling on the floor laughing that's funny!
Yes, I put it out this morning back to its mother plant and it does have some purple tint to it. This is the biggest and most fragrant of my collection. It is not stingy on branches too, I got 3 branches. Here is what it looks this morning. I think it turns some purple when the sun is intense.

This is late last year's purchase from Brad Buds and Blooms. It measured slightly over 4+.

Just a note that many of these varieties are also available from Florida Colors (a lot of Brad's plants came from there) and usually at better prices...

You are welcome Annette!

Thumbs up I discovered Florida Colors through Hetty this year, I did notice a price difference on some of them. Thankfully some of my purchases last year from BBB were either Thai cultivars and deep discounted ones that I'm still ahead. Plus Brad sent me some multi tips with no extra charge.

Now I check both websites first:)...but I'm still waiting for my 20+ from last years purchases to bloom first...before I start buying again. I'm running out of space... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Earlier last year I had only 2 varieties... *Blush* this plumeria addiction is contagious.

Gigi, thanks for the compliment Big Grin

I would love to know what is the reason for grafting a plumeria, is there a benefit? I noticed that Florida Colors offers grafted plants, but BBB takes care to mention that the plants are NOT grafted.

I think hard to root plants (like the red ones) have better success rate if they are grafted. Or if the cutting is too short you can save them by grafting. When I buy mine, I prefer them not grafted because I want the entire cutting that I paid for not just part of the cutting. I'm interested on some grafts at BBB right now, and things I ask Brad...is the graft union noticeable or not? Is the grafted stock too short or are they more or less regular-sized cutting grafted. I just like the idea that I'm buying a longer cutting even if grafted and not a short tip grafted. I want to get what I truly paid for.

However, I experimented on grafting myself but out of my own common or no ID plummies. I was able to save a 2 inch 3 tip Dwarf Pink Singapore by grafting it on my Hausten White. I failed a few experiments because I didn't do it right. Thankfully, they are long enough and now they are rooting in cups. In my experience with plumeria a grafted plant has a much better root system and therefore makes a healthier more vigorous plant

I think it is because most of the grafted plants that are being sold by the reputable nurseries like FCN and BBB are grafted on young vigorous seedling rootstock. My experiments were grafted on my vigorously growing rooted cuttings...so that must account for some of my failure to graft them properly.

Plus, grafting is a learned skill, I don't think I have what it takes yet. So, I'm leaving them to experts right now and I stopped experimenting this year :).

Thanks for the information about why plumerias are grafted. I have 11 plants like this, that I had gotten from Mike's co-op 2 years ago. They've done well, I've really got to repot them.

Mike's been in ATP for a long time, I've heard good things about his plummies...am sure yours are good graft qualities! Thumbs up

Here's a first bloom from my seedling plant. The bloom and flower size is similar to EP's Treasure Isle....must be the parent plant. I love the pink pastel color...

Here is an update of my MMR from BBB. I am so happy with this, and you can definitely see the purple edges on the blooms. This is definitely a prolific bloomer and a new favorite!
