Ok, so I'm pretty sure there is an issue with my bromeliad, but I'm not sure if it is too much light, too much water, not enough water, or something else. The base of the leaves were always a little paler with the red lines, but now the red lines and pale color seem to be progressing further down the leaves. I'd you need more details let me know, thanks!

Hi! It is definitely a Guzmania Bromeliad, sorry I should have specified. The tips of the flower definitely got a little crispy, I assume from letting it get too dry at some point but I also don't know how long it has been flowering (I got it I May, already flowered with two pups sprouting). (I have trouble getting good close up shots with my camera and my apartment has terrible lighting so I'm making up for quality with quantity...hopefully one of these shows you something useful!)

The red lines are normal coloring and it is getting pups, so far it is okay, the mom plant is fading out (dying off naturally), I would give it more water, looks a bit dry.

Bromileads are very short lived,.
once they bloom they are dying, up to a year from purchase, and they will not stop dying no matter what you do.
if you care for them, however, they are extremely fecund.. with pups coming from the base, baby plants coming from moms roots, they will continue nearly forever.

It usually takes 2 summers for a pup to color up and bloom, at which point it's ready to die, and make their own pups.

If you want to continue this 2 year life span, the key is bright summer sunlight as much as you can give it

The flower you are looking at now is dying and there is no saving it, it's not you, its mother nature. Bromileads bloom then die. They dont live forever. They flower once then die. But if you have pups, little plants that sprout near the roots, and patience for a two year maturity and mostly - lots of Sunlight the pups need- you can keep it alive.. but you're not supposed to. Dont feel bad if you just enjoyed this plant for its lifetime
