Just not sure my daylily should be moved to Helicon. It has never been close to 40" tall. Are we saying Bonanza does not exist? Or is mine just none of the above? I am confused

I think the conclusion is that most of the plants sold as "Bonanza" do not match the description of either of the two cultivars registered under that name. So if the plant you have is yellow with a red eye, it's not Bonanza.

The entry for Bonanza 1954 in the ADS database has a picture.

There's no picture for the Gates cultivar, unfortunately.

Since a few have now mentioned their plant not being the 40" tall or blooming midseason, (no one mentioned if theirs was dormant or not) I will most likely be making another Bonanza entry with the notation that it is an unregistered plant. Too many nurseries are selling this Bonanza now.

OK, here is the new entry Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Bonanza-unregistered') I will now move all 30 images over there. If anyone would like to add additional details to fill in, I would appreciate it.
Would you agree with this description? Bright yellow, dark red eye with mid-ribs.

I am terrible with colors, so I would like to see a description that includes the bloom color, the eye color (other than just dark) and the mid rib color. But if someone were to ask me to describe Zoia's bloom (the closest bloom photo up above) I would probably do an awful job of it.

I meant to add red eye so edited my post, the midribs just intersect the eye so color doesn't need to be added.

What a timely discussion for me! Just today I was going to ask for ID help on this one.
My NOID averages 26-28" height with 5" bloom. Very vibrant. Late-mid to early-late here in 6b.
So, I'm assuming I can call it unregistered Bonanza? Didn't quite understand the measurements on your determination. Blinking

I just checked my old files on my daylily collection, and here are the stats. It is not 28 -30 inches, it is closer to the 26 inches.

This is the 1954 one by Ferrick, does that look like what you have?

Perhaps a little late: the plant I added as Hemerocallis 'Bonanza' was labelled that way in Belgium. So the naming confusion has spread wide and far. As, unfortunately, is so often the case, even for species. I think a root for this problem is that, as a grower, you have to add a name to the plant/cultivar to be able to export the plant. But nobody checks whether the name is correct (there is no penalty!). The fancier the name, the better the price! And we, plant lovers, are left to deal with the confusion... as most retailers (and the majority of customers!) don't care either.

I also have a much shorter" Bonanza" in a different location that fits the more modern specs, in the 26" range. Here are the two flowers

Tall Bonanza in Upper garden

They look very similar except for their heights.

I have clumps in my garden that are exactly the same and the heights can vary quite a lot from one spot to the next, I imagine from soil or light differences. Height alone is not enough to say they are the same or different plant.

I was unaware of this discussion until just now when I was attempting to research Bonanza. My local Home Depot is selling Bonanza in two different size containers - $16.98 and $8.98. The less expensive one is a decent sized plant and I'm considering going back for it.
