Thanks, T. I was just looking at the Sen Articulatus pics in the database. Many are yours and they are super green. Mine has always been more of a gray green when in the house, or greenhouse. I wonder if we have different ones?

I think it depends how much light it got growing. Initially when I got mine it was quite green having been growing indoors by a window in the store where I got it. When I finally have it in my garden getting more light and cooler temp, it gets lighter colored like the gray green color you mention.

That may be, but mine has been in a lot of different lighting. Right now in the greenhouse it's very bright light and it's stayed gray green. I know light does make big differences, but mine has never changed.

My plant is still trying to form its leaves again, so it is still quite small. And it has been outdoors, with temps going erratic so it takes its sweet time to go bigger. Maybe I should put it in more light, it is just in too much shade, temps are much more cooler. Will observe it how it goes. Thankfully no rain forecast the rest of this week, but overnights are getting much cooler.

I read that it grows in the winter, and drops leaves and goes dormant in the summer. Mine has been watered all year and is growing all year. I still think our leaf shapes differ so much they must be different species. I tried looking them up but only found one with globular stems, and that's not what either of us have.

Yes, my plant is still waking up from its summer dormancy, it is quite quick to sense the heat, so it quickly dries up its leaves. Like you said it is more actively growing around winter time. But I have to keep it indoors by then if it happens to rain or we have hard freeze warnings. That may account for its difference in appearance right now. It does make globular shaped segments in some parts, just depends if it is awake and getting moisture.

T, mine has been given a lot of water and never grew any stems that were globular. Yours is. I'm thinking yours may be the Senecio globosa. It is greener and makes the rounded stems when it's well watered. It seems to be more rare, too. Your leaves look like the globosa. Mine are much different.

I don't know either, and wish someone would be able to give a positive ID.

Karen in the link you sent the first sentence is that it is a variant of S. articulatus, so there ya go Smiling I got one this past spring, love it! It was doing amazing things and then the pot got tipped over and the plant broken into several pieces, I put all the pieces in the pot and it is doing fine! It did stop growing shortly after the plant spill, and I thought it didn't like getting tipped over, but maybe it was just getting too warm! Because it is cold here in the evenings, even in summer it was a pretty pinkish color!! I tip my hat to you.
In the comment section of the blog people were saying the blooms smell like cat pee - great glad mine is outdoors!

I did see that. We are just trying to decide if that really is what Tarev has.

I've broken mine many times, and the pieces do root easily. Neat that yours has looked pink. Mine has never done that, but I think the coldest it has had was about 60. I keep the greenhouse heated to 60.

Karen, your Senicio is something I have never seen before. It is amazing. The flowers are so bizarre. I have to keep searching to try and see a close up of one.
such a strange shape. Where do you find such unique plants? And Tarev, never have seen that Crassula either, but I am in love with it. It must be more difficult than a regular Jade. You two grow some wonderful plants. Thanks for sharing. I had fun looking into your cool plants.

Thanks, Laurie. Believe it or not I got it at a Lowe's about 9 or 10 years ago. If you keep watch, they occasionally get some unique plants in there with all the common ones.

I agree liking both plants! One thing about many big box stores is their plants are from seed, meaning natural hybridization can occur, so that could be why your plant looks different!
Tarev's plant looks almost identical to the one in the link (to me) so I would stick with that ID (it sounds like that was the ID when you got it Tarev?)
I'll find some pictures of my plant - wish me luck for this winter, I'm keeping them outside, but on a deck, which sadly doesn't get as much light as I'd like but it keeps me from having winter room mates which take up so much space nodding

Good luck with the plants wintering on the deck. If you get a lot of rain while it's cold, cover them if you can.

Glad we are talking about the Senecios, made me look around on my other Senecios/Kleinias. Yup, they are all awake and growing more active now. I always love Fall cool downs for them, allows comfy 70's daytime and the cool mid 40's to 50's overnight.

Greg, if you will have lots of rain later on, bring them in, the air will be heavy with moisture. Even if they don't get rained on, it is too much for them. Fungal rotting ensues.

Karen thanks for that link on the globulosa..never knew that, so maybe that is what I have. But I do grow mine differently too, allowing the plant to go dormant during our very long hot weather days, so it really stops doing anything at that point. Don't know if that too causes the rounded growth it makes as it wakes up. It does make the elongated stick like parts then makes the globular shapes. That is what I like with this plant, it changes a lot, having leaves then no leaves, then the shape becomes segmented either elongated or round. Big Grin

It is a really unique plant, T and fun to see what it does during the year. Whenever I'm a klutz and accidentally break mine, it roots so easily, which I love.
