I recently purchased Ruby Hearts and two large plants were in the pot. I later tried to divide them but they seemed to be grown together at their sides like Siamese twins. Will they ever produce little baby offshoots like a normal semp? Shall i try harder to pry them apart? Confused Are they going to have to go under the knife? Sad Is the surgery the same as with jovi's? How long will they be in recovery?

Thank you teacher! I tip my hat to you.

Ahh, the Siamese twin plants.... Yes, they should have babies just like they normally would. Since they're both large, I imagine they both have a good root system, so if you pry them apart it shouldn't hurt them. But it won't hurt if you leave them together either. If you feel like practicing your surgeon skills, go for it. Just make a clean slice between them, making sure they both still have roots attached. Leave to dry for a few days, then replant. Chances are they'll never miss a beat. Good luck and let us know the results.

I wanted to separate and replant them so they would spread faster. It is definitely going to take a knife... I already broke some leaves trying, in vain, to pry them apart. Is this normal for Ruby Hearts or is this one a freak of nature?

I don't have Ruby Hearts, so I'm not sure if it does this often. My guess is that it's just a freak. Hilarious!

I bet the people who sold them to you put them so colse together that they grew into each other. They were trying to fill up that pot better. I have this variety and it grows normally with the babies like the others. They do get large, but they are some tough plants!

Oops, too late Lynn, although I previously put a pic in the database. I did the surgery right after my first cup of coffee and now Ruby is drying out. I'm glad to hear it grows normally, I don't like the knife dividing technique. Sad

I fixed it. Did I get the correct photo?

You can take a photo of the pieces, before you plant them.
