Patty, if you have one that is giving you problems for to much rain, you can pot it up in dry potting soil and place it in a bright but protected (from rain) area.

As far as replanting the surgically cut in-two semp. I would think we need to plant it in the direction it came out of the ground, bottom first into dry potting soil. With maybe a light mist of water after a few days.

Another option is to spray the plant with a solution of Configure. I used that on my Echinaceas. I also sprayed a Sempervivum with it. It works in a matter of days. You have to use a stronger dose for Semps. I think I used 400 parts per million. I have photos of my experiments with Configure some place. It worked in 3 days on Echinaceas. The Semp put out numerous offsets in less than a week. I will share the photos when I track them down. The great thing about this method is you don't have to damage your plant and it works quickly.

Here's an article about it...

You're welcome Jennifer, I mean most labels sound scary, I just don't use anything strongly chemical, so I'm not gonna do it, although it is tempting! Hilarious! 10 times the amount of chicks - wow!! I tip my hat to you.

You use plastic gloves and it's very diluted. It dries fast and is absorbed into the plant. If you buy a lot of plants, you've probably already got some that were treated with it. I had no issues with it. I mix up only a quart at a time. I use a medicine dropper.

Clint is yours in liquid or crystal form? I'm sure any of the "big box" stores use this!! I wonder if the smaller nurseries use it?? I guess they probably have to in order to keep up! nodding

Mine is a liquid. I had no problems using it. It is really effective. Some of the Echinaceas that I grew wouldn't branch well without it. It actually made them survive their first winter here because they bulked up at the crown. I think growth hormones are used at most nurseries. I know almost all of them use rooting hormone. This is just a chemical that is effecting the branching instead of the roots. I see nothing wrong with taking advantage of science. I don't just spray it all over the place. It's really just a tool to use in some cases. It's very good with Echinaceas, Sempervivums, Hostas, Christmas Cactus, etc. If you follow the instructions, it's very simple to use. You just wear long sleeves and long pants and wear rubber gloves. You spray it on the plant when you know there is no rain in the forecast. It usually dries within an hour or two anyways. The amount is very tiny. I was surprised how such a small amount worked so well. It's not for everyone, but I just wanted to share the knowledge I had about the product and how it works.

I'm with Greg ... after reading all the fine print I think mine will have to multiply the old fashioned way.

Although now I'm hedging, since hearing Clint's expanation Shrug! I wonder if there are any "natural" growth hormones on the market? Its for me a nonissue because I probably wouldn't go out and buy this product, but if it said "all natural" on the label then I might! (kidding!) Whistling
Clint I did find the article you linked interesting, one reason is that they said they use peat rich soil Thumbs up

I think you can get "natural" ones, but to be effective they have to be concentrated somewhat. They still probably have the same warning label. The label on rooting powder is scary too, but people use it constantly.

The only chemical I use (in my garden) is roundup... A necessary evil for me.

I have used Roundup to in the past. I probably should have used it more because I have some weeds in the grass right now while the grass is dead. LOL.
