While entering the common name Sarson for above I get taken to general entry Brassica which is not quite true. Rape seed is not a Turnip or a Cabbage.

It's just like calling that a Turnip or a cabbage I tip my hat to you. .

Arif.

You should be taken to the Brassica napus entry rather than the general Brassica entry. Brassica napus var. napus is a synonym of Brassica napus. Rape mustard shares the same DNA markers with turnips and rutabagas, so they're all the same species.

zuzu I tip my hat to you. I know they have the same DNA marker but still a person cannot call a Turnip a Mustard Blinking . Some one has made a wrong entry and I would like to rectify it. How to do that? I can give you the common names of the other veggies in return if required.
Regards,
Arif.

Who made the wrong entry? Where is it? The common names listed in the Brassica napus entry cover all of the plants in that species. It's up to you to distinguish between mustard and a turnip. Big Grin

zuzu do like this, go try enter the name 'Sarson' in Brassica napus you will get what I am trying to explain. As to why that is happening, well even I could not find the entry in Brassica but ATP's server is adamant and sticks to its own view point Shrug! .

I don't understand. Are you proposing that Sarson be added to the Brassica napus entry as a common name or is it the name of a cultivar that you're trying to add?

It is the common name in this part of the world, not a cultivar. When I try to add it as a common name I get a return answer that, that name has already been taken by Brassica general entry Shrug! . So, I figured that someone has made a wrong entry somewhere. Try and see. Yes it is a official proposal please pretty please zuzu.

I see what you were doing wrong, Arif. You should have looked for Brassica napus subsp. napus, not B. napus var. napus. I've added Sarson as a common name for B. napus subsp. napus.

Rape (Brassica napus subsp. napus)

Do you want your two photos moved from Brassica napus to Brassica napus subsp. napus?
