Thanks. I guess I'll just plant them on a trellis then. We have a very large shop, so I'll figure out how to put the trellis along the side. Should be very pretty!

I do know people who grow MG as a ground cover, but it's all on flat land. We don't have a lot of flat land here!

I grow tons of MG every year and have been following genes in a cross made 5 years ago. Just yesterday I got all my MG seedlings planted in the arches I made for them - I'll be growing some new stuff and am revisiting some F Generations of previous years of the the cross I mentioned above.

It occurs to me that you might think about growing some sort of squash/gourd Family 'Cucurbitaceae' there - some have amazing flowers. Call your local extension and ask them if they had any suggestions for plants that would make good forage for wildlife.

Wow! Love the double star! What was that previous 'red' one? Love some seeds of that!

Have you ever seen any of your MG crosses do what happened in the picture below? The top flower was when it first opened and the bottom flower is the same flower but 5 hours later. The morphing started about an hour or so after opening and every single bloom did this! Would love to know what's going on here. It's an F2 Cross of Platycodon Blue X Fujishibori. Both have distinctly different forms and the marriage of the two is awesome! I have never seen this kind of morphing before so prominently displayed. Can't wait to see what the F3 does!

Thanks for the link! I love that idea and will have to give it a try! We have an overabundance of wildlife here, and I'll be planting some partridge peas for them to munch on. I'm also going to be planting birdhouse gourds once we get settled in. That may have to wait until next year since we're still not finished moving. I'll be making a long walkway between the house and shop, with the gourds growing over the walkway on a frame. This house has only a small flower bed around two sides of the house, so I've got a lot of work to do. I just want some color fast, and MG is the way to go for that. All veggie gardens here have 6 foot tall fences around them because of the deer, so I would love to find something to grow for the deer, besides the partridge peas. The extension office is over 30 miles away, but we do have to go into the city once in a while, and I'll check with them.

X, I think that color pattern is called "decolored crest". It's fairly rare I think. That's a nice color in the flower. The pink one is a Japanese morning glory that has yet to give me a seed in spite of myriad flowers being produced over the winter. It has remained dwarf, growing in its original yogurt cup in which I started the seed.

Decolored crest is new to me .. not too much info about it. It's not too late to germinate more of the F2 seeds and see if I can get another plant to do that and isolate it as suggested in what little information I could find. If you'd like to grow out some of the F2's Tree mail me your addy.

Are you all growing the really long/tall MG inside in winter, or dwarf varieties? I'm really interested in doing this!

Indoors, I grow my vines on circular trellises or teepees made of bamboo. You can keep a long vine under control by forcing it to wind along the wire loops and vertical uprights of a circular trellis.

Yes, it's a fun one to grow. Its flower has a little yellow color in the primary folds, which is a rarely seen trait in Ipomoea purpurea or I. nil.

Just started my JMGs yesterday. I'm trying Star of India for the first time. Only had 4 seeds, but it looks like they're all going to come up! And some mystery seeds, and a bunch of Yoi No Tsuki, which I think are worth growing for the foliage alone!

Star of India was one of the first ones I grew way back when. I enjoyed it a lot. I look forward to seeing your photos and hearing of your experiences in growing your MGs.
