Erik - are you a commercial grower?

I guess you could say that. I would consider it more as a commercial pollinator and propagator. We normally ship all of our seedlings south to other growers as they can grow them twice as fast as us and have far more land.

The mule palm looked great until I read it gets to 30 ft. I have a suburban sized backyard. I need something smaller like a Pygmy Date or Pindo, I think. Don't tempt me! I just came home with two citrus trees.

Dh's oldest friends live in Marysville. He's from Seattle. I never learned the layout of the Great Northwest but it sure is pretty!! Actually, Mike, I am from SoCal and moved to TX with DH some 30 years ago.

You'll have to forgive me, but what is "dh"?

Ahhh....got it. And "sweet wife"? SW?

Is there a dictionary on the site that I've over-looked?

Also, why are the leaves pulled off a plumeria cutting before you graft it? Confused

Mike, some will remove the larger leaves when grafting or rooting cuttings so that the energy is directed to the graft or calloused end to form roots. Generally speaking, even if you leave all the leaves on, many or most of them will yellow and fall off anyway. When I am rooting a plumeria or grafting (just started trying my hand at this 4 weeks ago), I remove all the leaves but those small ones right at the tip. Another thing you will see is that when shipping plumeria, many of the sellers will remove most of the large leaves and I have received some cuttings where the leaves were cut in half. I have never seen the need to do either. I just leave all the leaves on when I ship plants. If some of them fall off during shipment or later while rooting the cutting, well, that's just Mother Nature at work. Just my opinions here, you understand. I am certainly no expert, just a hobbyist grower.

DrDawg,

Well, I'm going to give it a shot as well. My local plumeria nursery has several different plants with multiple colors and one with 10 different varieties!
The only thing that scares me in the cost!

Does anyone know (or can you point me to writings / articles that explain) if there are particular varieties that are better as the being scion versus being the "host"?
