Beautiful show, Ursula. I really enjoy the variety.

I had a walkabout today even though the temps were close to 90 and the humidity was high as well. The first thing I noticed was the Agapanthus.

Thanks Jim.
Your garden is gorgeous! Lovey dubby I love the Gingers! Everything is pretty and neat!

I wish I could do something here - it is right now 44 degr F here and raining since Thursday. I certainly hadn't expected such wet and chilly weather and so prolonged too. It is going to clear out by tonight, but it is supposed to be still chilly. My Cattleyas will hopefully be tough enough to come through this untouched, I had started to move the Orchids out since we had Summer weather here.

I've had this plant for over two years, this is its first bloom. Pachypodium brevicaule loses its leaves in the fall and then spends the winter in the bathroom with little water. Here is a pic of the blooms as well as a shot from March,2012. I just had to tell somebody, so why not here

Ted, I love your Pachypodium brevicaule!!
Do you grow other Pachypodiums too?
Mine bloomed this year in February, but I never got a nice neat bloom good enough to photograph. It seems that way many times with my other Pachys too - I got a good bloom on baronii this year ( still ongoing) but horombense, densiflorum, saundersii start budding in late Winter and then abort without opening properly. I only get a good bloom on them every few years. Succulentum blooms easier.
Did I mention that I love most other"Fat Feet" too ? Smiling

I have a saundersii that I bought at the same time. Growing well but no buds yet. I am looking for a good densiflorum plant. I have run across a few, but they all looked sickly

Are any of yours grafted on to lamerii stock, or anything else for that matter. Mine are not, so I have to watch the watering a little closer, but so far so good

Jim, Pachypodiums and other Succulents with fat stems are another whole group of plants with really interesting shapes and the blooms are a nice bonus. I will take some pictures as time arrises. Google Caudiciforms or "Fat Plants", but don't complain if you get hooked..... Whistling Right, Ted?

Ted, no, I don't have any grafts. I simply don't water in Winter, except for a faint spray once in a while so the roots don't totally atrophy and keep them in full sun.

OOo, Ted that little Euphorbia is so cute. I like its fat little striped body. Are Adeniums aka Desert Roses also 'fat plants' because they have a caudex? I was thinking your little Pachy flower reminded me of a Desert Rose.

I got a new baby from a friend on DG - Colocasia 'Tea Cups'. It's a cool plant in that the leaves collect rain water then tip it out over the end of the leaf. I think it will make a charming addition to my pond, if only I can keep it from completely taking over. Small pot, no fert, let's hope will keep it in bounds. I'll try for a picture of it 'pouring the tea' if it ever sees fit to rain . . Nice dark stems, veins and leaf edges, too.

Shooting Stars Hydrangea is blooms again. Every year I say I'm going to give up on these, they suffer so from fungal blights in the summer, no matter what measures I take. But then each spring I find them in the border blooming like this.

Jim, what beauties!! Hilarious!

Ted, very cute Euphorbea obesa, they look so close to Astrophytum myriostigma. (I said asterias by mistake.)

Interesting Colocasia, Elaine!

I didn't want to hijack this beautiful garden thread with a whole slew of Caudiciforms, so I started a thread about them over here.
The thread "What other plants/houseplants do you grow 5" in Orchids forum
Feel free to join in and have fun. Smiling

IF it looks like a cow pie and smells like a cow pie . . . Jim who let the cows loose in your flower border?

If you have six of those stinky flowers, does that mean you'll have six pretty foliage plants, too? Hm maybe, maybe it's worth it.

Nnaahhh.

Ursula, those are some nice fat plants. I have no house plants and no Caudiciforms, so I will look but not contribute to that thread.

It smells more like the cow died there and has been rotting in the sun for a week. I think they look like a red cabbage and morf into a terror movie brains. I'm not sure but I think there is more than one little tree for each flower. The forest us beginning to emerge now.
