Ah, I did it the wrong way, never and hardly use pesticides before, I sprayed it directly on the bugs, even I tried my best not to have the pesticides absorbed into the media. Maybe I need to use other contact pesticides

Well try watering it into the soil, the systemic might help that way. Follow directions, use the right amount, really saturate the soil.

Good, I hope it works. Be aware it may take some time before the plant takes up the product to a level where it is most effective. Days or weeks maybe.

These were easily detected and removed once I viewed the leaf undersides. I did a followup treatment with 70% alcohol and they were history.

What kind of bugs are those?

I found some of these little black bugs with wings on same succulent that had/has mealybugs! I was just checking it after a few days since I hosed it & bathed it in alcohol! These aren't the mealybugs are they? They look like mini flies? Sorry about pics

Fungus gnats most likely. Not usually a threat to your plants. They live in the soil and thrive when it is moist, so maybe try watering less often. Or use sticky flypaper if you want to keep the flying adults down.

I have a question about my succulents that got infested by mealybugs more specifically my aeonium. If I cant get rid of them all could I just snap the heads off & try getting new ones from the stems? I really love these succulents & I just don't wanna lose them all!! I got them from someone special who isn't with me any more!

I can't answer your question about the aeonium as I don't grow them. I have to comment on that container though Rolling on the floor laughing . That's a configuration I haven't seen! Also, what is that stuck in the corner? It looks a lot like a portion of a fishing rod and reel Hilarious! . What's its purpose?

Ah! I see now. Are you constructing those containers or did you purchase them? They are pretty creative Smiling . Interesting how junk can be repurposed.

If you want to save the plant and the instructions I gave earlier in the other thread do not appeal to you

The thread "Is this bugs?" in Cactus and Succulents forum

then you can try cutting all the heads off and letting it recover by rebranching (and now at the start of fall would be an ideal time to do this). You might try taking one of the heads that you remove and spending some time cleaning it, and start it is a cutting on the side, somewhere else. Really get in between all the leaves with soapy water or just a strong jet of tap water. Maybe spend some time in the sink spreading each individual leaf to remove bugs that might be hiding out there.

@Kaktus. Baja has given you great advice. The best way to use systemic poisons is to drench the soil for the plant to take it up throughout the entire plant. The scale bugs may be dead but the shells will remain for a long time. Eventually the dead carcass can be rubbed off with a toothpick or water spray or caned air spray.
If they do not release easily then they are still alive.

Thanks Bob, they are coming back, I thought I have eradicated them on the second application, but after sometime I saw a lot of baby bugs there, 2 days ago I applied the 3rd application, possibly next week I will soak the whole pot into the pesticide. D'Oh!

The spider is your ally in this situation, doing good work just by feeding itself. Thumbs up
