I've put numbers on the pictures still in consideration to eliminate confusion. And I removed (badly) the obvious tags. I'll also take a new picture in daylight tomorrow.

1 is my favorite, then 4, then 3, then 2. But t that's just the patterns as themselves. Different patterns might look better as they set off or offset other things in the room.

thanks, for a fun activity, Ann!
When I repainted my dining room, I really valued help from a neighbor who did a lot of painting and had a good eye for color.

Been sunny here but in 30s and 40sF. (downright balmy, eh, Canadians?) I've been inside at work of course, it was not tempting to go walk at lunchtime, yesterday, after putting dinner in the oven, I put my hat and coat back on and sat on the deck with my phone for 15 minutes. It felt good to be in the fresh air. But I am not getting walks or exercise much at all. Music will get me moving so I'll try that. And I realized, I could do some step exercises just using the bottom step of the stairs, like 'step' exercise classes the gym used to do.
Plant it and they will come.

I like 1 and 4. And agree that the one you like best is almost always the most expensive! I truly have champagne tastes on a beer budget. Trust me to always pick the most expensive. But sometimes the most expensive isn't the best, either quality wise or something you can live with. When I'm thinking about buying a couch, ( similar to picking out new upholstery) my first thing is to ask whether I would like the pattern 1, 5 or 10 years from now.

Well, here are some more pictures taken this morning. Taken on a blue chair that is near the window. I was hoping for some sun, but ... That blue chair will not be recovered. It's not worth it. It will stay for awhile, but may be replaced at some point. I'm going to another upholsterer in less than an hour; so might have even more later.

BTW Sally, when I painted the DR, I had paint chips all over the wall. I enlisted much help from friends and neighbours and chose a colour which looked entirely different when I started painting. It was only when I changed my focus from seafoam green to grey that I started to get close. It took me 2 cans of paint with 2 tints each to get the right colour, which you can see in the background in the picture of the large chair.

Choice #1. BTW, the Double Rub number is the wear rating of the fabric.

Choice #2.

Choice #3. This is the one that is more than twice as expensive and I've pretty well eliminated it. I thought I might use it on the large chair but don't like the look of it with the wood tone. I think it's too bland to use for the large pieces and likely too formal too.

The large, old chair, aka "the throne". Belonged to my maternal grandparents and I quite like it. My mother had it recovered, I think in the '80s. I won't use the same fabric but would like to find something which coordinates well.

Seeing better photos of the fabrics, I think that # 1 will wear best, it will hide dirt well, we know how important that is. Big Grin And I still like #2 even thought there it doesn't seem to have much blue in it. Thinking

I think #4 would look good on the chair. Be a good pop of a pattern there plus have some of the blue tones.

Well, I'm all for 1, now that I've seen it up close. I do like the wall color, although it's not one I would consider. I tend to go warm with wall color because I have a lot of red in my upholstered furniture.

Closer look at #1, looks like a microfiber with an informal weave. Jim had couches covered in something similar when we got married, and the fabric was indestructible, refused to stain, still didn't show wear when the (cheap) furniture was virtually collapsing. But will you miss the stripes?

I love #4 but might be too much of a good thing on both couches. It reminds me the most of your original fabric & really suits the room. I might also hesitate because the fabric doesn't wear as well as #1 or #3. I agree it would be great on the chair, oversized print would de-formalize the design.

Do you think #1 and #4 "play well together" or would it look too busy to use both in the same room? If not for the added expense, I'd suggest "bland" #3 with #4 for accent pillows on the couches (like the bolsters by each arm) and for the chair.

I've eliminated #1. Even though I like it, when the lights are dim in the room, it looks just like the carpet. Not enough contrast for the expanse of carpet and two large furniture pieces. Could possibly still consider it for the large chair. I'm going to go back and look at fabrics that are more on the off white-beige side with darker tan and/or grey stripes, particularly if I can find a grey with a hint of blue-green that echoes the carpet. I don't want as small a stripe as #3 though, nor as expensive a fabric as #3 - more than double the price of the others.

The carpet is a chameleon with some tan in it, but the overall effect if of blue, aqua or grey depending on the light conditions.

Boy, I've been waking up middle of the night a lot lately. I find myself up at 2:30, having warm milk at 3:30 and on the laptop, then thinking, Eh, 4:30, may as well just stay up now D'Oh!

Sally, I'm pretty sure you have a bedtime routine, right? You know, the one that says don't go to bed right after you eat, no caffeine, no blue screens, don't read or watch tv when you're in bed, etc. well, tried all that and it didn't help.
I'm just having to adjust to the fact that I'm not going to get normal sleep. It's a plus for me to get 6 hours. At four hours is when I'm depriving myself to the point I can't think good. Maybe decide for you how much sleep you can get by with.

Weather moving in.. we got to the teens F last night and we have freezing precip expected, hovering around the freezing point today. Yuck. I will bundle up and try to spend some time checking feeders and messing about before the rain. About that suet feeder the birds seemed scared of- I disguised the chicken parts by sticking leafy pine and magnolia stems on it and have m=now seen birds use it and its going a lot faster.

But being stuck inside really hinders my urge to move. We are making a trip to the pet sore, to buy coir mat sold for reptiles etc to climb but I am making a PVC totem for a plant, then wrapping the coir on it. Might also dig out the sealer for granite countertop and do some of that which means entirely clearing it off.

Feeding the sourdough today so I can share with a friend.. so might bake something. Snowstorms make me want to bake.
Plant it and they will come.

It snowed hard and long yesterday, but the air and ground was warm so most of it melted as it came down. It did snow for a long time, from 10:00 am until around 8:00 pm, with several breaks in between. It would have been really bad if all that snow had stuck. It was pretty, very big, fluffy flakes like feathers. If that's all the snow we get this winter, that would suit me just fine. After that horrible week last winter I'm not sure I like snow very much anymore. Thinking

LOL at having to disguise the cute feeder! but whatever works. I need to fill feeders also. The last storm, I ended up just tossing seed onto the deck.

So, Lynda, can we thank you for the snow we are supposed to get tomorrow? There's an awful lot of hype about the impending storm so I hope it's a dandy. They are saying 40 cm of snow - that's a bit more than 13". They've cancelled garbage pickup for tomorrow and it will be delayed a day all week. That's a First! Been living here over 50 years and they've never done that before. I've seen quite a few storms that were hyped to the gills that went south of us. Sometimes I think they forget we are metric and treat the forecasts like cm = inches. But then I grew up in the NY state snow belt and experienced many 18 inch storms. Anyway, my cleaning lady canceled what would have been her last visit - the new one starts next week and I decided I should probably not traipse to the other side of town to view upholstery fabric.

Well, what I do know is that the weather, any weather, is a huge event on the Weather Cannel. Of course that's all the Weather Channel is, but now local forecasters have caught the fever. When I was a kid there was never this "naming" every little high and low that traipses across the country.
I'm sure with the new notices for tornados more lives are saved, but weather is weather, it's going to happen and the best we can do is prepare ourselves for it!
I was rather surprised how many folks got caught with their pants down last February when that huge storm hit the South. I certainly saw it coming, and I even bought groceries ahead of the storm but didn't have enough birdseed, so I had to get out Thursday of that week to buy more. That and cat food.
My water was left running every night, so my pipes never froze. Can't tell Y'all how many of my friends pipes froze or they ran out of basic groceries like bread and milk.

the forecast was right on today for us. About an inch, maybe two, of light cold snow, then changed to freezing rain and then actual rain. Now it looks like the road washed down to ice, but the lawn is still white. Roads got salted ahead so outside our neighborhood may be ok. Petsmart was busy this morning- the pet owners grocery store, I joked. I bought a water fountain for the cats as one of them always hops up to see when we run water. Of course, he seems unimpressed by the fountain. D'Oh! Also bought coir mat to make a totem for a climbing philodendron.

So this morning being the only chance to be outside, I started the campfire and cut down some barberry- favorite thing besides getting rid of barberry is burning it right away instead of wrestling it into the yard waste can.
I'm off tomorrow for MLK Day. Huddling inside, making waffles for breakfast and slow cooked boneless country style ribs for dinner.
Plant it and they will come.

We're between storms here in the southwest - hoping for more rain or snow - moisture is moisture for our plants! It's cold, which isn't unusual - 10*f this am. Warms up to 45 in the day.

I'm having a bad several days - couldn't get my pain meds renewed before the weekend, even though I started with a renewal call a week ago today, Monday. It's Tramadol, which is a controlled substance, but gad, I've been taking it for years, small dose, but it lets me function. By the time I realized the pharmacy wasn't calling, I called them - they didn't get the prescription until Thursday am! Then they were out of it! Told me to call another pharmacy and they would work with the second one to let me get it. Second pharmacy first said sure, then 6 hours later as I'm waiting to drive 15 mi to get it, said no, they wouldn't do it. This was Friday, so no Dr in the office to fix this, so over the weekend, I'm basically going through withdrawal, Not fun. And today is a holiday, so no luck either. Damn!. Bad, very uncomfortable days.
