Good evening all,

Dinners sound tasty!

Tom...steak! Oh big yum especially when broiled. My absolute favorite way to have a steak. Drooling I'll take a broiled steak over a grilled one or one done up in a cast iron skillet on the stove any day. Add some sautéed mushrooms, a good salad and a potato that's a meal you can't beat! Sounds delicious and I am envious. It is reminding me that I'm due for another good steak dinner soon.

Small world about the potato masher. Hilarious! I swear there must have been several common household good/kitchen item manufacturers around the great lakes area. It seems everyone who grew up in the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky and Pennsylvania all seem to have the same 'stuff' . We all seem to have the same common kitchen goods and items from the same makers and era. Karen and I had the same pot. Not sure if you remember that or not. It was from some obscure home goods manufacturer in the Ohio River Valley area. Now it is crazy you and I have the same potato masher that is 69 years old.
I grew up in N.E. Ohio in the Youngstown area. My MIL settled there but she was a nurse in her younger days in Pittsburgh and when she and my FIL were first married they lived in Valparaiso, Indiana. I know that is not too far from away from Wisconsin. I do know Flint was the first division of EKO Cookware and their things are worth some money! How about that. Isn't that a hoot. That old potato masher just may fetch you $20 bucks. Hilarious! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/...

Rosie...I guess my version of 'mashed' potatoes that I make on the stove are your 'whipped potatoes'. My 'smashed' potatoes I guess would be more like your 'mashed'. I don't mind a little garlic in mine IF it is sautéed first to take the
edge off of it and so you do not taste an overwhelming/raw bite to it. I like it to be more of a secondary or 'back' note to the butter, herbs and the potatoes themselves I guess. One large or two smaller cloves will usually do it for a pot of mashed potatoes.
Deck chairs are pretty. I'm sure they will look nice when everything is finished and in place. It will be a lovely space for you to enjoy and to entertain on if you want.

JB...stir fry looks good. Thumbs up Plenty of good looking veggies and I'm sure it was nice and tasty! I love the flavor of both Hoisin and Oyster sauce. They can muddy up a dish quickly though. That is the only gripe about it I have. Otherwise what they lend to flavor is just brilliant. Your dish looks wonderful and far better than most of our Chinese take out. I would kill for good Chinese here in town but it is woefully lacking. Pretty bad when you have to say the best is Panda Express or what you make at home. Big Wa used to be good but they have gone way, way downhill. Blech! Big Blech the last 2 times I have had them. Just awful! Thumbs down

Sedumzz.... May I call you Sed in the interest of brevity? Smiling Tomatoes and eggs are a classic combo but one I never could appreciate. While I like each on their own I never came to appreciate the two together. No criticism of your taste or dish. I am sure it was quite delicious.

Sally...as to answer your question I am not a 'peppers and eggs' expert. I do love omelets, however, and have them often. Today was a perfect example. Eggs with cheese (Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack and Cheddar) with mushrooms, onions and lots of bacon. I do not like 'runny/yolk-y' eggs. I like them rather dry and well-done. Big surprise there considering I like meat MW. Anyhow, omelet was delicious. Made a huge one and split it between the husband and I for lunch. It was plenty.

Dinner tonight was roasted red bell pepper and tomato soup. Roasted all the veggies on the grill. Cooked up with some chicken stock, white wine, cornstarch, spices, etc. on the stove top. Used the immersion blender to blend to a nice smooth consistency. At the end added some cream, but just very little--only enough to give it a little body really. Grated some good Parm over and added a sprinkling of fresh basil and parsley. JUst delicious! Even better with a nice whole wheat French Bread brown-n-serve roll. Just perfect for dinner with a glass of red. Tea (decaf lemon-ginger) now. It is getting late and bedtime not too far off for us at 9:30 or 10 p.m.
Thumb of 2022-01-07/AgaveGirl1/439906

Did also put on a pot of chili. I took the last container out of the freezer so we could have that on hand for tomorrow. We have to go to Chandler. Husband is having another vein procedure on his leg. Rolling my eyes. Oh well. Needs done. Anyway, I took out last container of chili which prompted me to make a whole new batch. I cooked that up in the crock pot and now have 4 containers to put away for later 'grab-n-go' meals. Thumbs up I also put away 1 container of the red pepper-tomato soup in the freezer. That will be good for a lunch one day whenever we want it.

Plenty in the fridge for the next day or two. There's left over pasta and mushroom sauce. There is red bell pepper and tomato soup. There is chili. We have things to make grilled ham and cheese or quesadillas/ sandwiches with. There is plenty of lettuce, cheese, and fixings for salads. We will not starve for the next day or two. So no serious cooking for us until the weekend .

Happy Night All

I like crunchy or crisp cookies. Even shortbread is good, its not what I call soft. I don't like this recent trend to making a big deal of soft cookies.
Plant it and they will come.

I like crisp crunchy cookies, with a slightly more chewy/soft center.

Not too crazy about soft cookies either. I'm ok with them, but Im not too crazy about them

Split pea soup for me. I always like it, but this was the best I've ever made, I think. I made an addition which not everyone would care for, but suited me very well on a day that had a high in the mid 30sF. I made to batches of pepper stock before the freezing weather killed the plants. One was restricted to Habanero and Tabasco pepper only and it truly made 'fire water'. I froze the stock into small half inch ice cubes. I used that cooking beans and one little ice cube was enough. The other stock had less extreme peppers except for one Habanero and a couple of Tabascos, most of the peppers ranged from mildly hot up to the Serranos. This frozen in regular old fashioned ice trays - so I guess proximate 1" cubes. I discovered the carcasses of the peppers remained hot after it all was strained, so I took this batch and pureed them and also froze them into 1" cubes. This was the one I used. I put in three cubes, but two would have worked better in milder outside temps. The pepper stocks contain no other seasoning, meaning this pea soup had the pureed hot pepper cubes in addition to some onion, a grated carrot, 4 skinny sticks of celery, 8 smallish garlic cloves - everything chopped small, Rosemary, basil, salt and black pepper, and chicken stock for the cooking liquid. Good combo.

I don't have any idea where the soup mug came from, the oxtail soup recipe on it is something I've never made. Don't know why. It's my kind of recipe - a pce of turnip? bunch of spice? Those kinds of entries just mean I'm free to do however much and however many strike me at the time Hilarious! . Which is sort of how I cook even when the recipe is specific Shrug!

Hi Yall!

I agree with cookie comments! Never met a cookie I didn't like!
Except sugar free choco chip my mom bought since my brother is diabetic.
Now she hay be using cookies to feed the birds!

I even like the no bake cookies where you boil sugar, water, cocoa, oatmeal.
I may have to find a recipe and make a batch and share with grandsons!

I have to make up my mind that the New Years New Plans starts today!
Since I was doing errands, didn't have snacks, no cookies!
Walked with friends before the cool weather comes in tonight.

Since I bought small pans of hash brown casserole from Pie Ladies,
I was intrigued with Anna's Roesti hash brown potato recipe.

So I googled a recipe for the hash brown "skillet pancake"!
Crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside.
Looks and sounds tasty, especially with Swiss cheese!

I included a link to the recipe, and other potato recipes!

Since news just reported on King Cake season,
I have to repeat to myself, New Year, New Plan!

deli chicken is in the slow cooker with veggie bone broth.
hope it will be perfect for a busy, cool weather day! Thumbs up

Sed, I like most cookies, however I am quite sure I would not like stale dry ones, and I do not like biscotti.😝

Looks and sounds like another day of tasty dining.

Donald, your pea soup looks thick and delicious, just the way we like it. I love the mug.

I cooked all day, I made a humongous pot of chili with beans in my stock pot, it is very spicy, has a little Carolina reaper, and a little Habanero powder, along with several different chili powders, jalapeno. 1/2 a can of chipotle pepper with the sauce.

Dinner of course was the chili, topped with a little cheese, and I had a dollop of sour cream, warm brioche buns, and a simple mixed salad. DH said it was excellent, good thing as I have 8 more containers for the freezer. Rolling on the floor laughing We both had red wine.

I haven't met a home made cookie I didn't like. Can't say the same about the ones from the store. I especially hate Oreos. I know, there will be an avalanche over that statement, but I just don't like that extreme sweet yuck in the middle. (as I put my hands over my head waiting for the sky to fall) I haven't eaten many cookies over the past year, but I did eat a few over Christmas that I got in a small gift box.

Good Morning all,

Cookies...If they are oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip with walnuts I love them soft and warm....all ooey-gooey and melty yummy. Otherwise thin and crispy suits me fine. I'm not a big sweets fan and rarely have cookies so I don't complain about them too often unless they are sickening sweet.
And I agree with you both Tom and Sed---hate Oreos. Never liked them even as a kid. Sickening sweet filling and chalky, grainy cookie wafer that leaves your gums and teeth gray. Ewww! Glare How they ever got so popular is beyond me but I guess there's no accounting for taste (or the lack of it).

Well, seems like soups and chilis were 'the thing' yesterday. Smiling Looks like we are all making the most out of our cold weather to take advantage of some soup eating and to stock up the freezer for those 'grab-n-go' meals. I love having containers of soup and chili in the freezer. It is such a big help on busy days when you don't know what to have for dinner. Just fix a salad and make some bread and you have a great dinner.

Donald...excellent looking soup. Smart of you to cook up the peppers and freeze them that way to add to stocks, soups, stews and other dishes later. Thumbs up

Sed...Thanks for the compliment on my omelet. Do you make them or have them often? You never did quite tell us what some of your favorite things to cook are. Just curious.

TT...glad you are still with us and doing well.

Have to get ready for the day. Need to go to Chandler for the husband's leg procedure. Won't be back until later this afternoon. Hopefully I can catch a nap.
Happy Day All

ok

Oreo Convo ~ I would scrape off the creme if that was the only thing I had for snack, and if this was with friends, they'd be looking at me in horror. I tried the Oreo mint flavor, it tastes like Dentist Toothpaste to me....

Cookie Convo ~ I like to dip the super crunchy warm ones into milk, not too long not too short. I need it moist, slightly penetrated with milk, but not too crumbly or mushy. Yummmmm....

Egg Convo ~ I don't really like Sunny Side Up type eggs or just plain boiled eggs. Just an onpopular opinion. After visitng Yellow Stone, every time I try eating a boiled egg that's super eggy, I just think off a geyser... Which, makes me think of the bacteria/cyanobactera/whatever-it-was-called and then makes me feel uncofortable.

I like scrambled eggs and omelets... Omelets with veggies and not too much cheese. I also like the not-100%-firm eggs with the soy sauce that resturants put with ramen sometimes.

Or over easy, with bacon or sausages or something that has a lot of flavor.

Eggs are another thing I can eat and enjoy any way but raw. I think my favorite way to eat them is sunny side up, but I also like them over easy, or fully cooked. I like them soft or hard boiled, scrambled or baked in a souffle. Since I have my own chickens, I have them very fresh, unlike the ones from the store.
