Not an Oreo fan here either, too sweet, so long since I had one I don't remember the texture. Hilarious!

I like eggs over easy, soft boiled is ok, I like scrambled, best is over easy with bacon or sausage. Sadly these days with stomach issues they have to be firm yolks. Glare

Over easy and often. Omelets (not much filling), Egg Foo Yung, soufflés', and most of all Eggs Benedict with browned butter on top. Chateau Frontenac, Quebec, 2008 - a breakfast that lives on in memory.

Question:

What is one food combination that you think might be weird or uncommon but you really like?

ooh, Chateau Frontenac! That should be memorable!

I like others besides my own over very easy. Benedict, if you still call it that when NOT on an english muffin (too chewy and bland) I had one on sweet potato hash, delicious. I have not tried to make hollandaise. Have to leave something for the pros or what am I paying them for? Soft scrambled is nice. Omelets, some, don't go too crazy on the fillings, please. Poached or soft boiled, nice, as long as the white is all cooked. Runny white is like snot. Green Grin!

Tom, I had a pang of jealousy- we got snow and I miss knowing that even if stuck home I can walk out and find a few fresh eggs.
Plant it and they will come.

Potato mashers, I looked at mine and it's very much like the one photographed way up this thread. Round, but with a squared off grid of holes, not round holes. Made in the USA, but no manufacturer evident. It was part of a set that was a wedding gift 53 years ago. I still have and use the fork, the long, thin spatula, the pancake turner and the potato masher. Also the slotted spoon, but the original spoon has been replaced.

Cookies - I like shortbread and my licorice cookie strips to be crisp. Chocolate chips, I like them crisp around the edges and slightly chewy in the middle. I do not like oatmeal raisin cookies. Too many traumatic moments from my childhood of biting into one expecting a chocolate chip and finding a raisin instead.

I periodically make baked eggs in custard cups (or if a lot, in muffin tins). I like them with a slice of prosciutto, a bit of grated or finely diced onion, the egg and some cheese on top.

The freshly squeezed OJ, at $20. a glass, was also memorable.

Always cooked whites!

Glad you had a good experience at Chateau Frontenac. I've only stayed there once, though I lived in Quebec City for 1 1/2 years when first married. We were there for a conference at the time of the wedding of Charles and Diana. The mattresses were so bad that I pulled it onto the floor and that's where I was to watch the wedding on TV. I expect they have improved since then.

raisin trauma Hilarious! .I sympathize!!! NOt a huge fan of raisins. Especially didn't like the squishy ones in mom's rice pudding... Glare texture..
Awesome cookie is the oatmeal with chocolate and walnuts and ?. I saw them called Cowboy cookies once.
Panera bread makes a kitchen sink cookie-- chocolate, nuts, god knows what else but it is huge, 4 dollars, and 800 calories!!! I can only eat a quarter of it. Not crisp crisp, but not that nasty soft stuff either.

Surprise day off with snow. I should be making soup for the freezer. I almost cannot stand canned soup anymore. Split pea sounds good! I have some ham and chicken drippings to add fat and flavor.
Plant it and they will come.

Good afternoon all,

Well I am fit to be tied and the husband isn't all that thrilled either. They screwed up our appointments so it was a wasted trip out there today. It is supposed to be vein procedure on Tuesdays followed by ultra sounds on Fridays. Of course because one doctor is working from multiple offices and it is post holiday they messed crap up and had the husband scheduled to go to an office we do not live close to instead of the office we do. Grumbling So that will add another week's delay and time off. We were furious and pretty much gave them an earful.

Anyhow, got home and had lunch. Had a big bowl of the red pepper-tomato soup and split a grilled cheese sandwich. Hit the spot. No cooking for me tonight. Plenty of leftovers in the fridge.

Ann...Kind of chuckling. Your experience at the fancy hotel in Quebec reminds me of the stay I had in London back in the late 1990s at the Grosvenor. Everyone kept saying how 'posh' the place was. I thought it was freezing cold, drafty and the food very average. Service was outstanding though.

Anna...I am with you 100% on eggs. Thumbs up Hate them if they are the least bit runny/wet. EWWW! I mostly like the whites and then cooked through and if I eat the yolks at all it is in omelets, soufflés or scrambled eggs and they must be cooked very, very dry. If I have a fried egg the yolk must be broken and cooked hard or I won't eat it.

Tom...very jealous you have your own organic, farm fresh eggs on hand all the time. Lucky you!

As for weird food combos I'll have to give that some thought. About the 'weirdest' thing I do, that I can think of off hand, is put A-1 on potatoes/French fries as I do not like Ketchup on them.

I'm tired. Think I will try to take a nap.
I'll catch everyone a little later.

AG, bummer that they messed up Dave's appointment, I hope they do better next time. Glare

Horrible weather here, snowing lightly, windy, blowing it all around, 11 F. I thought it was a good morning to make DH some more muffins, today I made banana, apple, & raisin with cinnamon. They look good, smell good, so hopefully they will taste good. Grin

From scratch, so, pretty good. Could be creamier though.. sauce was a little grainy.
No split peas in the pantry.. don't know how that happened.
Plant it and they will come.

I had to make a trip into town today, so while there, I stopped at the market. They finally had some smaller cuts of pork shoulder roasts, just under 2 lbs. Usually they are too large for me, so I got one, and cut it in half, and froze half, and roasted the other half. I also made some bread dumplings, and had some sauerkraut with it. Yah, a good ole German dinner. Hilarious! It's been a long time since I've made bread dumplings. I made some extras too, as I like them cut up and fried then scramble some eggs with them for breakfast. The roast was so tender, and the dumplings turned out light and tasty too smothered with onion gravy. Riesling, of course! Smiling
