Matt cilantro and coriander are 'Mexican' words. Cilantro is used to describe the green leaf, coriander means the mature seeds that are used. Kinda like jalapeño and chipotle, jalapeño is the green pepper, chipotle means a ripe smoked and dried jalapeño.

The Prospera Basil seeds I planted August 30th are sprouting. The Passion I planted that same time has not come up.

They need to sprout and grow quickly as I want to get some harvest still even though really late in the year.

Both these are DMR types which I have not grown before.

I have grown Obsession and Devotion DMR basils. Both last year and I am growing them this year also.

I recently harvested the spent lavender buds from the 'Sensational' cultivar I introduced to the garden this year. I stripped the pods off the buds and made a pile of them (sort of like stripping niblets off an ear of corn). I then placed them in a paper bag to continue drying, so that I can use them for aromatic purposes this fall and winter. 'Sensational' is an improvement on the 'Phenomenal' cultivar, and is among the most pungent lavenders I've ever grown.

I planted all my Cilantro Seedlings. I had a grown larger crop and small seedling crop but I planted them all.

The very last batch popped up quickly ones before that took weeks but these took 4 days. And I did not even soak them. Shrug!

I still have purple basil growing and some lemon basil. I plan to pull up the last of the lemon basil today as it does show some signs of that downey mildew that the basils get.

My Obsession and Devotion DMR Resistant basils are still growing well but I only had three pots of them.

I do have small seedlings of Passion and Prospera DMR basils. Yes it is very late but I will plant them and see of I can get a harvest before the frosts.

It was too late in my season. They immediatly got downey mildew as small seedlings and I had to pull them out and trash them.

I have plenty of seed so early next Spring I will be starting the Emerald Towers as well as the other Genovese types.

I'm sorry to hear that. I did look forward to seeing them. The catalogue photo and description is so tempting.

Do you think if you start early in the spring there won't be the problem with mildew?

Yes, they should do quite well started in the Spring as I do with my other Genovese type basils. It lasts till start of August , maybe slightly later, before getting downey mildew and dying.

Happens like that every year. And I have been growing basil for years. This year decided to expand and try Greek, purple and lemon also as well as new to me Genovese types. I really needed to grow those genovese types much earlier in the year.

Interesting to hear that sets in at a certain time each year. At least that will allow you to plan around it ( plant around it ). And you should have plenty of seed left for next year.

I pulled out the last of the Lemon Basil and bagged it up for yard waste pickup.

I really smells so nice when you cut it with the beautiful scent of fresh lemon. But really not much good in the culinary department. My friends and I use basil for Pasta Sauces and stuff like that. So Genovese basils. Nobody knows what to do with the lemon. Shrug!

we have used a little lemon basil in chicken dishes
but a little goes a long way
I have found that dried it is not'' too'' flavorful and good in chicken soup

I do not usually dry basil.
