I use gobsmacked frequently, often sarcastically (for example "Our politicians didn't tell us the whole truth? Why, I am gobsmacked!"). I don't think of it as the same meaning as blindsided.
Gobsmacked means (to me) to be astonished. Whereas blindsided means either the literal to be struck from your blind side or to be unable to see the truth of a situation.

Regardless, it is a wonderfully evocative word.

Snicklefritz (not recognized)

I love words. Never heard snicklefritz, the first on this list I have not known! I wish I had, it is a wonderful word and I've missed out on using it all these years.

JB, you're probably right concerning gobsmacked and blindsided. For me gobsmacked is something out of the blue so astonishing I can hardly believe it happened. Blindsided is more of a sneak attack when I'm not looking for it.

Did I post hoojeebobber? I thought I did but maybe my phone didn't complete it (blame it on the phone, not user error)

Some fiction book I read, I thought the author pulled out the thesaurus too much, or not enough, he used some rare adjectives more than once and stolid may have been one of them. Like 'no one uses that! and here you've used it 3 times" Glare
Plant it and they will come.

I like it when I encounter a word I don't already know while reading. That's where I learned almost all of the words I know so far. Picking up words from speech is difficult because you have to remember it later, then guess how to spell it to find it in a dictionary.
