I'm going to have to keep an eye out for one of those. Looks like it's about time for a trip to Bakers Nursery, one of the oldest in Phoenix, still family owned, still the best prices on plants. They always have a nice selection of roses and they might just have this one.

I don't know if you remember that thread I posted years ago in DG about the two tiny toothpicks Heirloom had sent me. I posted pictures of them next to bands from Vintage Gardens to show how pathetic they were. One of those toothpicks was Kaleidoscope. Now, five years later, it's still only about a foot tall, but I blame that completely on Heirloom because the Kaleidoscope bushes at Garden Valley Ranch are between three and four feet tall.

The other Heirloom toothpick was Gloire de Dijon, which finally started growing after about three years, but turned out not to be Gloire de Dijon.

That's a shame they did that too you, and I suspect very frustrated from them. I have a Gloire de Dijon in my back yard, it was a decent size rooted cutting...as I recall from Tom Liggett. I don't remember for sure. It's huge now, and keeps trying to eat up Red Wand and Susan Louise.

I think I might have identified this. I found one of my old maps that showed Tinseltown and Sheer Elegance growing close together in this spot. Tinseltown was supposed to be pale pink and white, but Sheer Elegance is orange-pink. I can't find Sheer Elegance anywhere else in my garden, so this must be it. I guess I lost Tinseltown completely and Sheer Elegance just took over the space.

HMF says Sheer Elegance is only 42" tall, and mine's 7-8' tall, but this one's in the shade next to Bill Warriner, which is supposed to be 3' tall, according to HMF, and is at least 5' tall in my garden. Besides, there's a climbing sport of Sheer Elegance, so maybe that's what I have here.

Zuzu, I just stumbled upon this thread and am afraid to say that I really don't think your mystery flower is SHEER ELEGANCE after all, based on your pictures. I have SHEER ELEGANCE, although unfortunately I don't have a picture yet, but it is my absolute favorite HT and the flowers have incredible substance and beautiful recurving petals and are quite different looking than the flowers in your pictures -- more similar to those in HelpMeFind. I don't ever remember seeing the flowers of SHEER ELEGANCE with that more open, cupped form when fully opened. When mine blooms I'll get a picture or two and post them here so you can see. Also, my SHEER ELEGANCE never gets that tall. Maybe 5'-6' tops, and that's only because I'm absolutely terrible about maintaining my roses. We moved it last year and it suffered a bit from the heat and stress, plus it's an older plant and shows it, but hopefully it's recovering this year and I'll get those gorgeous flowers again. In fact, does anyone know where I could get another? As I said, it's my favorite!

I just recently joined this cubit and am just now starting to take rose pictures, since when I got my camera I was wildly into iris and am currently in my daylily frenzy. But I'm starting to notice my roses again now that I'm lurking here quite a bit...

Oh, dear. Thank you, Betty. I guess the hunt for a name will have to continue.

For some reason your "mystery rose" does remind me of something I've seen in the past, maybe from the '80's? And I'm thinking grandiflora. Is there any way to search on grandifloras from that decade?

My Sheer Elegance is blooming, although she's unhappy with me and only giving me four blooms, but hopefully she'll pull through her slump and take off after she's acclimated more. Here are some pictures taken over the last three days both in sunlight and shade:

She is gorgeous and I'm so glad you're adding these photos to the database. I can see how different it is from my rose. My blooms are not high-centered.
