Betty you won the lottery Hurray! Hurray!
I got a few coming from Matt this spring. I bought Blame It On The Rain from Yenok for this spring delivery. Should be exciting. I went into Home Depot to buy a few things and added this monster to the basket.

I got one of those at Lowe's a couple years ago; it was like selecting from a bin of coconuts.

Mike, will you have to dig it up in the fall? I never grew elephant ears when I lived up north. I love them here: I have four kinds.

Nan it will have to come inside. I plan on planting it in a eighteen gallon pot where I can see it when I come out the back door 🚪. I will turn the pot on its side and dump out the prize on a tarp in the fall.

Yeah, I have to dig up my caladiums every fall. One year I didn't, and they mostly made it; the next year I tried it again and lost them all. So now I don't take chances.

Eighteen gallon pot!! Mike, I would love to see that elephant ear in the pot when it gets big. I love elephant ears.

I'm only getting a few daylilies, but it will be about another month before I expect any to be shipped here. We are still expecting frosts for a few more weeks.

I keep eagerly checking my email every day to see when the next order has shipped. Nothing yet. I am expecting shipments from MP Flower Gardens, Sterrett Gardens, Sun Dragon Daylilies, Arrasmith Farm, and Grace Gardens in upstate New York. Maybe at the end of this month for MP Flower Gardens and the others after. I expect Grace Gardens will be last, and I'll have to be extra careful with those plants as they will be shocked by the Georgia heat and sun.

I think I have all plants in now except for 2.
The other day 3 came in the mail - Pharaohs Arrows, Blazing Cannons, and Seminole Stitchery.
Unfortunately the mail carrier came on the 7th and didn't leave the package stating that there was "No secure location to leave the package". I thought that was odd because every time I order daylilies the box is left on the front porch without a question. Our house is pretty secluded so the porch is safe. Anyways those poor plants got to me on the 9th so they were a little dry. I've soaked them in water and will pot them up today. I think they will be fine.

I have giant elephant ears planted one on either side of the back porch steps. They get taller than a person and the leaves get longer & sometimes wider than a yard.

This was last year but I forgot to get a photo when the leaves were even bigger.

Alea that is a nice triplet. Do you know the name of the elephant ear that you have. It is nice.

Thanks Mike!
I visited someone who had these elephant ears everywhere. One was so massive I had a photo taken of me standing at the base with my hand unable to fit around the stem of one of the leaves. This plant was at least 10ft tall. So I got a baby one and planted it. I've had them ever since. However, my parents have a neighbor who throws out large ones somewhat frequently so they started giving them to me. I think this plant is somewhat common in my area. A member on here told me she thinks what I have is Xanthosoma robustum, which isn't exactly a colocasia but it is very similar. Colcasias are from Asia but this thing is from South America. Very cool whatever it is and definitely one of my favorite plants I have.

They reproduce very easily and grow quickly if in the right soil. I would be more than happy to send you some so long as I am given coaching on how the heck to send a live plant lol. Although with how many I've ordered I suppose I have an idea of the wrong way and the right way. Rolling on the floor laughing

Elephant ears are certainly easy to grow around here. At last year's neighborhood plant swap, every other person brought a bag full to give away. If I had known that was going to be the case, I would not have bought my bulb at Lowe's! I love it, though. I expect it will eventually get huge.

I have that one (the giant green one everyone around here has) and also Black Magic, White Lava, and Teacup. I thought I had lost White Lava, and then I found it growing in the compost pile. I guess after it had died back, I raked it up with the old pine straw in the fall.

Ooh I've been tempted to get White Lava but I've also been wanting Mojito for years. I didn't get it sooner because I was waiting until I had success with growing elephant ears before I bought it. I used to have bad luck growing them. One year I bought a Mojito bulb from a local tropical plant seller but it turned out to be some other type of elephant ear. Every dark kind of elephant ear I try never does well. I think I had black magic and it never got bigger than 2in and it finally never came back.

The other day I got in 3 Kahili Ginger roots which I'm excited to grow. I had just finished potting up new daylilies and was all washed up, then on the table I saw a box, opened it, saw that it was MORE plants and sighed. Just when I thought I was done haha. So those ginger roots got potted up too. My Dad disked up a big area with the tractor so I have my first huge garden to get started on. Everything up until this point has been little pockets of garden.

Just heard from Brian Reeder of Sun Dragon Daylilies. He has shipped my order, and it's due to arrive on the 16th. Hurray!
