Received plants today from Daylpp: Assigned for Size, Jean Swann and four fan bonus of Thelma Douglas. They look great and nice bonus.

Received plants from Mark on LA as well. Some were small, but he put in bonus fans. They definitely weren't the same size as last year.

Double fans of Lava Flow came in today. Both fans have a scape forming but unfortunately one of them got broken in shipping. The other one is intact still so that's awesome.

The funny thing is the daylily I've been wanting the most, Big Boy Butterfly, will be the last daylily to arrive. Rolling my eyes.

Received my order from Sun Dragon Daylilies just now--two days early! Hurray!

Wow--I got the four I had ordered plus four bonus plants! Hurray! So excited!

I ordered So Substantial, Substantially Awesome, Elizabethan Rainbow Portrait, and Samwise the Brave. My bonus plants are Elizabethan Minerva, Evidence of Light, Endless Pigment, and Jane Jets On.

I ordered from them last fall, and the plants looked just the same--maybe because they come from such a distance. They give good service, though. Last fall two of the plants succumbed to crown rot, and they replaced them immediately, no questions asked. All the plants from last fall are lush and beautiful now, so I took a chance and ordered from them again. They have a lot of older cultivars I had been looking for.

I think it's worth mentioning for those that might not realize that there is a tremendous price difference between the newer Floyd Cove plants vs. the olderAmador plants. Floyd Cove's Too Good to Be Blue $125.00 Vs. Amador's Little Print $6.00.

I've been satisfied with the plants received from Amador. Older plants, value priced.

I just got an email from Ron Reimer of Signature Daylilies. He is shipping my order (Ethereal Lavender and Peach Preserves) tomorrow. He warned me that the plants are on the small side because of late freezes and cold, wet weather. However, I feel confident that they will make up for lost time when they get here. I'm looking forward to growing these--my first order from him.

Received this plant, a Waldrop seedling, from Yenok recently. Very nice with a scape, which I am hoping to save. The picture of the bloom is from the hybridizer.

Also received DIRE WOLF from Dan Hansen, which is also scaping in the basement. Picture again is the hybridizer's. Nothing compared to sweet Betty's, but one can always dream…lol. Adding two evergreens to the mix. D'Oh!

So how does that work when you buy a seedling from the hybridizer? Might the hybridizer decide eventually to register it? Or do you purchase the rights to it?

I think Maurice or someone posted a link about that.
The take-away I got was that if it is unflowered (i.e. never-flowered, and I assume the only one) you have the option to register. If it has flowered and/or there are lots of fans spread around different people, you may not have the option (however, the seller may pass those rights on to you as part of the sale, but would say so explicitly).
I hope I remembered correctly. Shrug!

This is how it was offered on the LA. I do know that other people have it also. I have no plans to introduce somebody else's seedling, so it really isn't an issue for me.

" I also must mention a bloom that I had this morning in the Greenhouse. It is Seedling 8-708. I think I have shown it before, and it looks similar to Nicole's UNDEFINABLE. When it initially bloomed in the garden it had "teeth" that are very noticeable. In the Greenhouse the teeth are not as well defined, but it grows very well there. It is 27" tall with 5-way branching and 32 buds. The flower is 5.5" in diameter. It is an evergreen. It does not grow well in cold weather. It easily pod and pollen fertile, and the parents are as follows: MSGT KENNETH LANE x UNDEFINABLE. I have crossed 8-708 back against MSGT LANE, and should see the blooms from this cross this spring.

I can only guarantee people living in growing Zone 7a or above that this daylily will grow for them. Bill Waldrop was going to release this stripes and spots with toothie daylily, but it's not cold hardy, But is a breakthrough in daylily hybridizing. It's very fertile both ways and a great pod parent. I will one fan for sale."

AWESOME looking fans, everybody! Some are downright gigantic! I don't know how these vendors can grow such huge fans. Do they feed the daylilies with special fertilizer formula?

Steve, those two are beauties! I am sure you will make something even more special with their genetics.

I have received 2 orders and am awaiting the rest which should come in May.
