I doubt it, but I wish we had. Green Grin! We generally get about an eighth of an inch to each inch of yours. No puddles here yet, so I may have to employ the hose. At least I wasn't digging in soil that was too wet and ruining its tilth.

Love it when rain waters in my new plantings. Have been slowly getting my new salvias planted. WhTs taking time is figuring where to site and what to move. Loved several things around, sprinkling handfuls of compost as I go. It's really a workout be wise the compost is in back of yard uphill. Moved some short echinacea and rudbeckia to front, then moved some day lilies to another bed. Little by little the garden a getting some fine tuning.

Hurray!

Here, too.

Love transplanting this time of year. With the moisture-holding capacity of the soil here, clumps can be dug, set somewhere shady and they'll be fine for days...maybe even weeks; not that we have weeks to wait, but you know Sticking tongue out they could if they had to. I pulled out a Lady in Red salvia and haven't reset it yet, and it's still blooming. Hilarious!

I bought a bag of mixed lily bulbs last spring. HD, had five per bag. Triumphatore which I had always wanted and Pink Beauty.
I planted the bulbs in pots and placed them where I thought they might get a permanent home.
NOT so. I just moved them to a better location without pots, let them grow free.

Good thinking. I lost a daylily and an iris in pots, late winter, very early spring of last year. I guess they rotted due to water sitting on top of frozen soil. Shrug! My hardy (zone 6) orchids didn't make it either, but that's not surprising after last winter. The plant I started from seeds of penstemon Husker's Red did just fine in its pot, but it had a lot of empty water bottles buried in it so its drainage was excellent.

Most of the gardens here are just about finished for the year, but here's some autumn color.

We have some frost damage, but there are some notable new surprises for me...nicotiana, portulaca, salvias, 4 O'Clocks and that hybrid sunflower are right out in the open and they shrugged off that first frost we had a week or so ago.

Planted most of the last batch of spring-flowering bulbs today. Hurray! Other plans for the weekend, but I hope to have the rest finished up by the beginning of next week.

Love this weather for transplanting and rearranging! Dug up a salvia, some agastache and Stachys officinalis over a week ago and left them sit while I did other things, and that salvia is still blooming like crazy...just sitting in a clump on top of the grass. Big Grin

Yep, it sure is. We have a freeze watch for tonight.

I have a question about Balloon Flowers. I finally had them do well this year in a big container of compost, but they turned yellowish before the frost.

Is this normal? Should I even bother transplanting them in the ground for the winter?

Chelle, they do color up in the fall, mine get a pretty yellow. If they still look healthy, I think that it's probably their normal fall color.

Today I took apart the log water feature and moved it out of the way so that we could get up on our roof for snow removal this winter. I miss it already.
The sedum mats did very well just laid out on top of the logs. They're still doing just fine, even in the wet weather we've been having lately. I've angled their placement for winter drainage and we'll see how that goes.

Dug all of the in-ground dahlias for drying today, and carefully labeled each one...as begonias! Rolling on the floor laughing Too funny that I just now realized that!

Zinnias are frosted and done, but calendulas, nicotiana, petunias, marigolds and salvias are still blooming. Monkshood looks good, too. May yet get a few more rose blooms, but I've begun moving them to new locations as well.

Still managing to stay on top of the bulb planting so far.

Late in the season or not, today I cleaned out all of the grass roots and strawberry plants in one of my lily beds. Replenished compost, split and replanted daylilies, replanted the bulbs I found, and added these-

Orienpet Lily Conca d'Or (additional)
Oriental Lily auratum Gold Band (replacements)

Orienpet Lily Lavon
Orienpet Lily Anastasia
Orienpet Lily Purple Prince
Asiatic Lily Pearl Jennifer

Almost done with fall planting now, and just in time I think. It looks like winter may settle-in in November for us again this year. I still plan to move dormant roses before the ground freezes, but I'm not sure how much I'll get done before it does.
