Smiling First ones on the ground, one of my St Criox/dorper ewes went today.......... Had a nice 5-6 pound ram lamb, 'thought' she was done ( first year ewe) Nope, about 45 minutes later, had a little bitty ewe lamb, about 1/2 the size of her brother........ I am concerned about her, mom isn't showing much 'patience' with her tryin' to nurse..... I milked mom and got a couple oz into baby and am headed back out here in a bit to check and do it all again if she needs more............ Regardless, I have a couple pictures..........

( ouch)

Her sister had a LOT of interest in the ram lamb ( she is also due at any time now)

These babies are 3/4 Dorper ( ram is 100%, Ewe 1/2)

Awe. Good luck with the baby lamb, Hope if mom won't let her nurse she will take the bottle.

Well, she has made it so far and the good news is, she is 'latching on'..... I continue to 'supplement' ( because I am a worry-wort ) ........ Also went over to my neighbor's today and helped them with their lambs... She ended up with a couple bummers from older ewes ( we will also be 'helping' her with those ewes ( a necessary 'evil' in production herds) ................... 1 jacob ram and 1 ewe lamb for her ( you can tell the ram by the double diapering ;) )

My 2 first........ Not tough to tell them apart, he looks like a 'butterball' compared to her (if you click on the picture, you can see all of her )

The breed is Jacob sheep....... and being from a dairy back ground, you would probably understand the term 'bottle babies' quicker Big Grin Bummer lambs are just that, the ewes for these 2 are older and unable to nurse them..... My neighbor didn't think they were bred ( goes to show you, they can be 'sneaky' ;) ) She is going to cull them, sad but a reality of a working ranch..........

Well, my other ewe 'went' yesterday ( it seems my girls have a 'Friday thing', ;) wink goes here) Again, first a ewe lamb, then a ram lamb .......... Both doing well from the start Big Grin

their coloring has me a 'tad' baffled ............ The sire is fullbooded Dorper, the ewe i was told, a St Croix/Dorper mix ................... I know there are times that Dorpers can throw some brown, but I haven't seen or heard of 'pinto' ( wink here ;) ) In fact if someone wanted to get 'technical', the ewe lamb is 'calico' ( mostly wite, with a couple black spots on her back and brown on her head and legs) I dunno................ Regardless, this is a production flock, not a 'show' flock, so my main concerns are conformation and gain ( beyond healthy and 'vibrant' )

Here are shots of the 'new' 2 and the week old 2, (gonna have to figure out some names for those 2)

Ewe lamb first, she's got a lotta leg goin' on ( wink here)...........

Then, the ram

Thumb of 2013-03-30/tracerracer/40f433

The ewe spent a LOT of time in the blackberry bust behind our crabapple, I am sooooooo happy that she decided to jug herself up before doin' the deed

Thumb of 2013-03-30/tracerracer/70bf2c

and finally, because she was doin' not so hot and I wasn't sure we be able to 'pull her out' of it................. The week old ewe lamb is doin' fantastic, she is a goin' concern............ May I present, the Queen of the hill ( another wink here)
